In 1958, he moved to the sergeant position and in 1968 began working as a lieutenant. In 1974, Lieutenant Goudreau was promoted to captain and continued working in that capacity until his retirement in 1984. On December 1, 1984, Captain Goudreau was awarded the Miami-Dade Police Department's Distinguished Service Medal for his service with the department. Oakland Park, Florida is a small town in Broward County, Florida. The population was 5,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the North Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a trading post on what is now US 1 and Sunrise Highway in 1925. In 1933 it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 2,500 people under the name "Orlando." The name change to Oakland Park in 1945 when the community acquired land south of Sunrise Highway between US 441 and US 95A. In 1949 it merged with nearby Pompano Beach to form the current city of North Miami-Dade. On December 12, 1952, Oakland Park voters passed a resolution ratifying incorporation intoMiami-Dade County and becoming its seventh municipality since 1915. On November 3rd, 1957 fire destroyed most of the water tower within city limits; this event helped spark protests against county government which continued until 1967 when county officials built new water towers within city limits and increased tax rates without voter approval. In 1966 South American immigrants who had been working in Overtowns fertilizer plant were employed by A&P grocery store owner James Fenton to start their own tomato farm near present day Airport Boulevard and Northwest First Avenue known as "Fenton's Farm". This gave rise to Oakland Park's reputation as one of America's first agricultural towns because tomatoes were then an important crop for local consumption and export

Oakland Park is one of the oldest towns in Broward County, Florida and has been inhabited by Native American and Spanish people for more than two centuries. The area was first called "Tocache" by the Seminoles, and it was renamed Oakland Park in 1857 after Captain George Oakland of the U.S. Marines who helped suppress a Seminole uprising at that location. The town was founded on a tract of land that had been part of Fort Brooke, which was built in 1793 to protectFlorida from Spanish forces. The fort served as a military post until 1814 when it became an arsenal and then a garrison for Fort Lauderdale. In 1837, Oakland Park became part of Miami-Dade County when it was created from parts of Miami and Broward Counties. It remained part of Miami-Dade until 1959 when it became part of Broward County again. It is also noteworthy for being home to the first golf course in South Florida; Cypress Hills Golf Club opened its doors in 1928. Today, Oakland Park is known for its annual Labor Day parade which features floats made out of traditional Cuban sugar cane products such as rancheros (cowboys) carts decorated with banners reading "Hasta La Vista Cuba", "Thank You America" and "Election Year 2020". There are also carnival rides, games for children, a small fairground amusement park, several hotels including Regency Plaza Hotel & Conference Center,and numerous restaurants and cafes serving Cuban cuisine including El Botega Cubano restaurant within walking distance from most homes. In addition to its annual parade honoring American labor heroes such as Samuel Morse and Jimmy Carter,[6] the town hosts other events throughout the year such as chili cook-offs on Fridays at Harbour View High School[7], art shows held at various venues[8][9][10][11] throughout the summertime,[12] car shows/races during July or August,[13] bingo tournaments,[14][15][16] music performances[17][18], fireworks displays during Fourth Of July celebrations[19],[20] as well as many more special events not typically found in other similar sized towns across South Florida!
The Oakland Park area was settled in 1824 by the Seminoles, who named it for the Ancient Greek city of Omonia. The area became part of Jacksonville, Florida after the Seminole War ended in 1835. In 1861, Jacksonville was annexed by Tampa Bay, and Oakland Park became part of Tampa. The population ofOakland Park peaked at over 10,000 in 1920, but declined to around 5,000 by 1940. It has since regained a degree of population growth thanks to suburban development and tourism.
