Maga coffee has a long and proud history. The first mention of maga coffee was in 1539, when it was noted that an Indonesian Arab had brought some beans from Mecca to Jakarta. In 1693, Dutch traders discovered the beans while travelling through Java and began trading with the locals. By 1797, Dutch traders were exploring the Australian continent and landed at Batavia (now Jakarta) with a shipment of 500 kg of maga coffee. The first commercial production of maga coffee took place in 1807 by King James II of England for the British East India Company. After tasting this new variety for the first time, he ordered additional shipments to be sent to London. In 1814, Portuguese explorer Diogo Gouveia sailed into Java and tasted maga coffee for the first time; he immediately ordered more than 2000 kg of this Beans to be shipped back to Portugal. Soon after, other European explorers followed suit and started importing large quantities of maga coffee into their countries. Today, there are many different types of maga coffees available on the market; however, all share one common goal: to provide delicious cups of roasted Javapresso-quality beans that are rich in flavor and aroma.
The first coffee was grown in the region of Maga, Ethiopia. The beans were roasted and ground by local farmers and drinkers there started to drink coffee for its flavor and health benefits back in the 1800s.
The city of Ocala, Florida was founded in 1836 by the pioneers who came from Georgia. The name, Ocala, is derived from the Choctaw word “oka” meaning “place where people gather.” The town quickly became a center for agricultural production and trade due to its location on the Gulf of Mexico. By 1850, Ocala had developed into a thriving commercial community with a population of over 30,000. In 1915, the city passed an ordinance establishing racial segregation in public schools. This decision helped to create one of America’s most segregated cities and led to many protests and boycotts by African Americans living in Ocala. Despite these challenges,Ocala remained an important cultural and economic center until it was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Today, the city is home to a number of museums and historical landmarks including: the Forbes Museum of American Business; Stonington Hall; Atlantic Beach State Park; and Florida State University’s Sanford Stadium.
