Ocoee is a city in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ocoee is located on the east coast of Tampa Bay and is bordered to the north by Lake Okeechobee and to the south by Fort Walton Beach. The first people in what is now Ocoee were Arawakan Indians who came there in search of fresh water during the late Pleistocene epoch around 12,500 years ago. They built their homes near an artificial pond that still exists today. The first white people to live in Ocoee were two men named James Sisson and Isaac Butler who arrived from Stonington, Connecticut on July 14, 1824 as part of a wagon train headed for Gainesville, Florida. They established a cabin at what is now First Avenue and Third Street. The town began to form when residents decided to build their own houses rather than purchasing ones from others. Ocoee initially consisted of just 10 families but soon grew into a community with over 100 residents. In 1841 David Dixon built the first schoolhouse which still stands today across from First Avenue and Third Street. At that time it was also one of the few schools in Marion County open to all citizens regardless of race or gender. A new courthouse was constructed in 1851 which served as the center for village government until 1912 when it was moved to downtown Tampa due to Growth Management Act regulations which mandated urban sprawl within designated areas In 1865 Captain John Doane sailed his shipwrecked USS "Dolphin" into Anacostia River while searching for survivors off Jacksonville,Florida looking for any survivors or vessels seeking refuge after being lost at sea Upon landing ashore he found three Indian women living nearby along with some game animals so he took them home with him and started a family among them called Doane's Indians When Captain Doane returned back out again several weeks later only one woman had survived so he abandoned his search again . He went ashore again about two weeks later this time finding eight more women including four children before giving up because food became too expensive By 1870 most of American Samoa had been annexed by America making it ineligible for Ulysses S Grant's purchase as partSof World War I so Doane sold his tribe everything they owned including their land back to them That same year Captain John Doane married one of these women resulting in a family name change from "Doane" (the captain) to "Cook". Cook eventually donated much if not all his possessions including his houseboat which still stands today across from First Avenue and Third Streetto improve education opportunities for African Americans throughout central Florida beginning with Booker T Washington Elementary School located on Second Avenue west of State Road 408 next door where Dr King deliveredhis famous “I Have A Dream” speech; then Next door Redeemer Baptist Church starting services on September 15th 1966 followed by Emanuel AME church on November 4th1966 becoming Oneida Baptist Church then finally Palm Beach Christian Community Church opening services December 6th 1965 becoming Seminole Bible Chapel PBC following suit soon after that Black churches opened up all over Central FL helping blacks gain access to education available outside their homes unheard before Thanks To These Churches Nowadays There Are More African Americans Than Whites Living In Any Town In Central FL Which Means Our Race Problem Is Solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1821, Spanish traders founded the town of Ocoee on the Apalachicola Peninsula in what is now Jacksonville, Florida. The town was named for José de la Vega y Costilla, a captain in Spain's army who served as governor of Cuba from 1793 to 1800. In 1835, the town was renamed Ocoee after General Andrew Jackson's victory at Battle of Ocoee against General Manuel Rosas. The first school in Ocoee was opened in 1836 by teacher Anna Crain and her students. In 1840, the first post office was established in the town. By 1850, there were 50 homes in Ocoee and it had a population of 350 people. In 1861, an act was passed that changed the name of Jacksonville to Jacksonville Beach for military veterans who had fought during the American Civil War. After World War II ended, businesses developed around the area andJacksonville Beach became known as "The Beach". Ocoee is located on Apalachicola Bay near Jacksonville and has been part of that city since 1821 when Spanish traders founded it. It is considered one of oldest communities on Florida's Gulf Coast with evidence dating back to Paleo-Indian times. This region features many archaeological sites including two large Mound Builders tombs located at Cahaba Swamp National Conservation Area northeast of downtown Jacksonville and another ancient village discovered near Apollo Lake just outside present day Ocala County boundaries (see site map). The early residents were Pensacolans who arrived here between 1100 AD and 1500 AD according to historical records which place their arrival about 12 years before French explorer Jacques Marquette’s voyage across Central America which reached Mexico City on July 8th 1540AQ

In 1865, a cotton gin was constructed in Ocoee and became one of the first textile plants in Florida. In 1923, Ocoee became an incorporated city under the name of Jacksonville.
