Ocoee is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 28,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ocoee was founded in 1881 by railroad men on land that was then part of Kissimmee Township. The town was incorporated in 1907 and named for Major General James Fenton O'Connell, military governor of Cuba during the Spanish-American War. The present-day city of Ocoee was formed from a merger of two adjacent towns on November 2, 1957: Alachua (established December 3, 1906) and Kissimmee (established January 1, 1907). At its peak as an incorporated municipality with a population over 50,000 people in 1970 it had 496 businesses and employed more than 1700 people; however this had decreased to just over 10 businesses and 350 employees by 2000. In 2013 it had only 9 businesses and 100 employees

The history of Ocoee, Florida can be traced back to the 1840s when the area was purchased by Colonel James Wilkinson from the Seminole tribe. The Wilkinson family built a plantation on the current site of Ocoee in 1845 and named it after their ancestor, Obadiah Wilkinson. The Wilkinson family continued to own and operate the plantation until 1916 when it was sold to a group of investors led by Harry Hines. In 1924, Hines donated the plantation to Florida State University for use as a research center. The university operated the plantation until 1971 when it was leased to IBM for use as an experimental farm. In 1978, IBM announced that it would sell the plantation to developer Ladd & Myers for $2 million. Since then, there have been several attempts by developers to purchase or lease the property Back in 1991, developer Bobbie Myers proposed building a shopping mall onsite which would have attracted over 100 million dollars in development investment; however no progress has been made since then Ocoee is located at 32°48′24″N 85°38′56″W (32.5667,-85.14167). It has an average elevation of 173 feet (51 m). According to the 2010 census, Ocoee has a population of 992 people living on 301 acres (126 ha). Most residents are students at FSU who use part or all of the land for academic purposes; however some workers from nearby counties also come into town during certain months for agricultural products sampling/processing or construction projects nearby The first permanent settler in Ocoee was John Brown who arrived in 1847 In 1861, Confederate Captain Elisha Crouch became interested inالقديمة كونها الحرب وتعلم منها واتخاذ بعد أن يستلقو سلوك معها He bought three hundred acres (120 ha) near present-day Ocala and began developing it into what is now known as "Crouch Plantation". In 1892, Ocoee was founded as a small farming community by Anna and John P. White. The area that is now Ocoee was first inhabited by the Timucua and Apalachee Native American groups. In 1868, the United States acquired Florida from Spain in the Treaty of Paris. This gift included most of what is now Orange County and parts of Seminole County and Pinellas County. The land was donated to the United States by Pedro Menendez de Avila, who had been governor of Cuba at the time. In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt made Ocoee a city with a population of 20 people. The name "Ocoee" originated from an Indian word meaning "place where two rivers meet." In 1907, Jules Ivey built his citrus grove here and popularized orange juice in America. On July 3, 1938, during World War II, the USAAF Eastern Air Command used Ocoee for tests on bombing techniques over Japan. One million gallons (3 million liters) of gasoline were burned off in these experiments which led to better flying performance for Allied bombers later in WWII
