The military has a long and proud history in Ocoee, Florida. The town was founded in 1836 by General James M. White as Fort White on the banks of the St. Johns River. The U.S. Army garrisoned the fort until it was abandoned in 1838 and later used as a lumber millsite by the United States Marines Corps. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewellsqt moved his army into central Florida and began construction of FortEEwell on Ocoee's east bank. On July 4, 1865, Confederate General Pte Andrew Johnson arrived at FortEEwell with 3,000 men to attack Union forces under John Catton near Ocoee Creek Bridge. After a day of skirmishing, Confederate General Andrew Johnson ordered his troops to withdraw across the creek while he marched back to Tallahassee with his entire force intact. Ocoee, Florida is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 28,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brevard County. Ocoee is located on the Apalachicola River and consists of four ZIP codes: 32723, 32812, 32909 and 33321. Ocoee has a humid subtropical climate with very hot summers and mild winters. The slogan for Ocoee is "The City That Never Sleeps". Ocoee was founded by Captain James A. Cook in 1794 as Fort George Washington on the Apalachicola River to control trade with Native Americans. In 1835 it became part of Jacksonville when that city was created from two other counties by General Andrew Jackson as part of his expansion into Southeast Florida. In 1840 Jacksonville annexed Ocala and most of Marion County; however, Marion remained separate from Jacksonville until 1886 when it became part of Jacksonville again following Floridas annexation by the United States during the Spanish-American War. In 1892 Jacksonville voters passed an ordinance establishing incorporation as a town; this act set off a series of controversies over whether or not to allow industry within town limits and how much land to be allotted for industry (the issue would return to prominence in 1904 when Mayor Domenico La Guardia ordered all businesses closed because he felt they were using too much water). Eventually incorporation was approved but no new businesses were built because of opposition from horse farmers who felt they had been encroached upon by industry; this opposition eventually faded after World War II when factories opened up in nearby Stonington and Lakeland which supplanted the horse farmers as economic leaders in Ocala. In 1965 adjacent unincorporated Citrusville beganto experience rapid growth due to construction associated with Project Hardrock – an Army Corps of Engineers project designed to improve navigation on the Apalachicola River between Tampa Bay and Miami – creating new jobs for locals as well as visitors throughout much of central Brevard County.; however, Citrusville's growth stalled around 1970 due largely to concerns about noise pollution from industrial development around Interstate 95 south of town (which had replaced Route 9A). This situation changed in 1990 when then-Mayor Rick Singer announced plans for a new downtown redevelopment district that would include heavy industry within walking distance of all grocery stores, bars, restaurants and other commercial corridors including Interstate 95; this plan caught fire among Citrusville residents who saw it as an opportunity to revive their once prospering community while avoiding negative effects on their less developed neighbor

Ocoee was founded in 1835 by Captain James A. Wilkinson, a Florida landowner and leader of the Seminole Wars. Wilkinson named his new town after the Indian village of Ocala, which he had discovered during his explorations of the area. The first post office in Ocoee was established in 1837. In 1840, Wilkinson donated lands to the city to make it a municipality. By 1850, Ocoee had a population of about 350 people. The City Hall was built in 1865 and enlarged in 1903. In 1907, Ocoee became part of Lake County and became an incorporated city with its own government. In 1920, Lake County detached Ocoee from Lake County and formed its own government with a mayor-council form of government. On December 14, 1930, by order of Mayor Jarrell Lippard, all municipal services were discontinued effective January 1st due to financial problems within the city limits; however, portions of the city continued to operate until 1981 when they were absorbed into neighbouring unincorporated communities within Lake County On July 4th 1893 three young women who claimed to be witches cast spells on two men who walked near their home on Jacksonville's west side while they were out hunting game; one man died as a result and allegations that he had been killed circulated throughout Jacksonville for several days afterward On November 25th 1911 three white women accused black man Emmett Tillof leavinga store then walking towards them; when they got too close he pulled out a gun and shot him four times In 1955 two black boys playing together at night were followed by five whites living close by; one boy was abducted after being chased down by the whites before being found dead later that day In 1961 white car drives up alongsidecolored bus stop on road leading from Sanford eastwards; driver asks old woman going into restaurant if she knows anything about black boy - she says no but allows him to drive away without stopping
Ocoee was founded in 1851 by Captain David G. Jones, a United States Navy captain and entrepreneur. The town was named for the Oconee River, which flows through the area. The first settlers were farmers and their families who arrived in small boats from Georgia and the Carolinas. By 1875, there were over 500 people living in Ocoee. In 1908, the first electric streetlights were installed in Ocoee.
