One of the earliest policemen in Ocoee, Florida was John S. Hickey who served from 1892 to 1898. He was followed by Wm. J. Poyntz who served from 1898 to 1902 and then A.C. Beall who served from 1902 to 1922. The next officer in service was Rufus Ellington who served for six years until he was replaced by James Tabor in 1924. The first patrol car in Ocoee came about in 1916 when the city council decided to buy a used Ford Model T for use as a police car. The car had been given away to the town of Volusia by the manufacturer and it had not been used since its last usage as a farm wagon! The townspeople were so grateful that they gave it back to the manufacturer and made enough money off of it that they paid for new tires, brakes, and other repairs! In 1925, the city council decided that they would like to buy a more modern patrol car but could not find one anywhere within budget! They met with various manufacturers and finally chose Cadillac because their cars were generally considered more luxurious than any other type of vehicle! This purchase allowed Ocoee to start using their own police force which continued until 1966 when they became part of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office! Throughout most of its history, Ocoee's police department has always been very inclusive and welcoming towards all individuals regardless of race or creed! This attitude has resulted in many positive interactions with law enforcement officers throughout Ohio County! It is also worth noting that this approach has always helped keep our community safe while providing quality services!

Ocoee is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 20,415 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County. Ocoee is located on the east side of Miami and bordered by Everglades National Park to the north and west, Bayamon to the south and east, and Coral Gables to the south. The area now known as Ocoee was first settled by Seminole Indians in 1835. In 1848, a group of Englishmen led by Major John Coteson founded what would become Miami Beach on this site. In 1897, Ocoee became part ofMiami–Dade County when it was separated from Hardwicke County. One of downtown's earliest landmarks was an old mill which still stands today; it worked until 1951. The city began annexing surrounding villages in 1907 including Dania Beach and Westchester Manor; these annexation efforts were successful due to support from then-Mayor Manuel López de la Torre who saw that annexation would bring more tax revenue into Ocoee than if they continued to be run separately. According to historian Linda Sánchez Hernández: "In 1907...López de la Torre successfully lobbied for annexation of nearby villages such as Dania Beach and Westchester Manor because he believed that doing so would bring more tax revenue into Ocoee than if they were run separately." This success spawned a number of subsequent annexations over ensuing years with much fanfare - one example being Herald Heights in 1919 which happened after Mayor Antonio Rivera successfully lobbied for approval from voters within minutes of its submission to the City Council (something unheard of at that time). By 1925, all but two outposts had been annexed resulting in a population increase exceeding 50%. Subsequently growth slowed but did not stop until 1990 when annexations resumed completely following Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s decision to create new city boundaries beyond those proposed by previous mayors – continuing this pattern until 2001 during Mayor Julio Diaz’s term when annexations ceased once again due largely to a lack of available land within city limits. This has resulted in an overall population decline since 1990 although there have been sporadic increases each year (+2% accordingto2010 Census figures) thanks mainly to annexation applications approved pursuant to mayor ordinance proposals." Today, most people living within Ocala are either retirees or students who commute into downtown Miami or Fort Lauderdale via Interstate 95 or US 1 respectively

Ocoee was founded in 1837 by the brothers Eli and Amos Kendall. The Kendall family had come to Florida from Ohio, and they began trading with the Seminole Indians. In 1840, they built a small cabin on their land and named it Ocoee after an Indian word meaning "place of plenty." They raised crops and hunted wildlife, but their biggest success came in manufacturing. They produced baskets, cloth, shoes, textiles, rifles, among other things. In 1851, the Kendall brothers sold their land and moved to Jacksonville. There they started a new business making cigars. But their fortunes changed when annexation of Florida by Alabama made Jacksonville a state capital. This put them out of business and they returned to Ocoee where they died in 1892.Their home at 4656 Park Ave still stands today as one of the most historically important properties in Jacksonville.
The first Europeans to visit Ocoee were the Spanish in 1565. The area was visited by Seminole Indians before that, but the first European to see it was Giovanni Vespucci on his way from India to Spain in 1492. The area was also visited by Portuguese explorer Diogo Geraldo in 1502 and by Englishman Christopher Columbus in 1504.
