The USAF has a rich history in Oldsmar, Florida. The first military installation in the area was Camp Lejeune, located on the banks of the St. Johns River. In 1917, Camp Lejeune became home to 1st Lt. George H. Hill's 3rd Bombardment Squadron (Medium). The squadron was activated at Fort Bliss, Texas on 17 December 1917 and participated in World War I as part of VIII Bomber Command. After the war, Camp LeJeune served as an operational installation for Tactical Air Command (TAC) until its decommissioning in 1949. It then became home to First Lieutenant Colonel James Ellington's 9th Air Force Tactical Wing which served as a subordinate wing of Strategic Air Command from 1951-1957 before being transferred to Fifth Air Force and becoming an associate wing with Ninth AF in 1957-. During this time period,Oldsmar also saw active duty periods for three different fighter squadrons: The 333d Fighter Wing (later 4th Fighter Group), the 513th Troop Carrier Squadron (later 6th Airlift Wing) and finally the 748th Test Pilot Squadron (later 8th Test Pilot Group). The last active USAF unit stationed at Oldsmar was the 3507th Military Intelligence Squadron which operated out of Joint Forces Intelligence Agency Headquarters from 1988-1990 while JFI HQ moved to Mayport AFB, Florida in 1990 after renovations were completed at Cape Canaveral AFB. After JFIHQ left Oldsmar it was converted into an offices complex known as "Joint Forces North" where all US intelligence activities took place until 1998 when they were combined with Central Intelligence Agency operations under one roof at Langley AFB VA until their move to Doha Qatar in 2001." In 1966 Major General Clifford Liddy assigned Manned Maneuvering Unit 55003 "...to provide aerial survey support for planning military development projects within Everglades National Park...Manned Maneuvering Unit 55003 continued providing air surveying services through 1969 when it transitioned to providing real-time weather data products over Army Corps of Engineers Sites..." The Oldsmar Air Force Base gift history begins with an airmen's group called the "Oldsmar Airmen." The group was formed in 1945 and is still active today. Oldsmar, Florida is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,049 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by English colonists in 1837 as "Altamonte Springs". The name comes from Spanish "olvidar", meaning to clear or cleanse. At first, Altamonte Springs was only a small community on the edge of swampy land near what is now Lake Nona. By 1840, however, settlers had built homes and started trading with other parts ofFlorida. In 1851, two men named George Little and John Bramblett came up with the idea of creating a new town called Oldsmar on high ground just east of what is now State Road 408 (now US-1). They named their new town after Sir Walter Raleigh's flagship ship "Nova Carthagena" which had been lost off Havana Bay in 1798 while attempting to return home from an expedition to explore South America. The first post office opened in Oldsmar on October 12, 1851; it was renamed New Smyrna Beach six months later because that's where the original settlement sat. In 1853, Oldsmar had a population of 203 people and became known as one ofthe most important center for law enforcement in Polk County due to its location next to the courthouse and jail. Only four years after its founding, Oldsmar experienced its first tornado when heavy rains made some branchesailable among oak trees near Main Street corner . One account has it that five white women who fished from a boat down stream caught some fish which they cooked over an open fire before bringing them back into town to sell; this story may have been inspired by antebellum life when many womenfolk cooked food for their families outfitted primarily with pots and pans until cookbook publishers began printing cookbooks filled with pictures and recipes for everyday foods

Oldsmar, Florida is a town in Putnam County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by J.D. Olds and James Hurd and named after its original location on the banks of the St Johns River. The first post office in Oldsmar opened in 1896. In 1912, Oldsmar incorporated as a village and changed its name to Oldsmar when it became part of the newly formed putnam county government. During World War II, Oldsmar was one of many towns along the East Coast which were bombed by Nazi Germany; however, no damage was done to the town or its infrastructure. In 1984, a fire destroyed much of downtown Oldsmar and caused extensive damage to residential buildings including two-thirds of the homes in what is now known as "The Block". Despite this setback, old-fashioned Main Street revival continued through 2006 with new businesses opening up throughout downtown while efforts were made to rebuild parts of town that had been lost in fire including an art center and library complex (now closed). On October 3rd 2014 Hurricane Matthew slammed into Florida causing significant damage both to historic structures such as The Block Firehouse & Museum as well as more recent developments such as Ponce City Market which sits atop an archeological Site illustrating Floridian Prehistoric life - making it one of only three US cities still under congressional Ghost Town designation from Katrina!
