Oldsmar, Florida was the first town in Pasco County, Florida. The town was founded on December 12, 1837 by John Olds and his wife Rachel. It was named after Major General Andrew Jackson who fought in the Seminole War.
Oldsmar is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in Oldsmar were three men fromGeorgia who arrived in 1827: James Hogg, David Wainwright and John White. They built a log cabin on the site of what is now the Main Street Schoolhouse. In 1830, they erected a larger cabin on land that became known as "Hagg's Corner." In 1836, J.D. Oldsmar married Lena Pryor and bought 5 acres (2 ha) of land adjoining his parents' farmstead at present-day US 27 and State Road 446 near present-day downtown Jacksonville for $200 ($ in ). He named the township after his wife's family name, Pryor being one of only two people to receive this honor in Florida during its early days (the other being Capt. Nathaniel Pryor). In 1840, Elder William Fenton donated land to establish a Presbyterian church which would serve the townspeople until 1885 when it merged with Jacksonville University Church to form Jacksonville Episcopal Church. Methodist services were first held at what is now Mother Emanuel AME Zion Church in 1851 before moving to First Baptist Church which served as their home until 1907 when it burned down; services then took place at Second Baptist Church from 1907-1914 before finally returning to Mother Emanuel Zion Chapel from 1915-1968. When Stoneman Douglas High School opened in 1964 adjacent to I-95 exit 2294 off SR446 just east of town center it soon became an integral part of Oldsmar life although never fully integrated into town hall operations like most high schools do today due largely to budgetary constraints caused by increased highway traffic within walking distance of all our buildings including football and basketball stadiums! In fact MHS was even moved out onto I-95 shortly after opening so that all students could access freeway service! Finally we Joined hands with Mrs Moore de la Garza ( later Mrs Latham ) who donated much needed parking lot space next door on CR 147 south just beyond Shefford’s Drug store across FM 1417! From here On Out mother Moore promised never To Let Our children loose On That Field again !!

The economy of Oldsmar has been based largely on agriculture since the early 20th century; however, during recent years there have been efforts to diversify the town's economy into services such as engineering and accounting services as well as retail shopping opportunities for people located within or near Jacksonville’s downtown area." The Town of Oldsmar has had many different names throughout its history but what we know now about it comes from History lessons that our teachers give us each year starting in grade 4! In 1892 when General James Wold established this community he named it "Oldsmar" after his home state of Alabama and since then it has been changed quite a few times! One memorable change came about in 1907 when all of Fort Myers Beach were annexed into this community so renamed again to Jackson Park which lasted until 1912 when Jackson Heights/Jackson Park together formed what would become known as Jacksonville! Finally from 1925-1926 when all of our annexation happened we reverted back to our old appellation "Oldsmar" once again thanks to Mrs Donahue who chaired the city council at that time! This name change only lasted for 2 months though because after that time things started getting back to normal with new businesses popping up all over again under our current name... until today I am sure you are thinking why did nothing ever happen to oldsmar? WellSimple dear... Because Mrs Donahue just died!!
