The Oldsmar National Guard was organized in 1917. The first unit was raised in 1909 and the last unit in 1917. For many years, it has been an important part of the community. In 1938, the Oldsmar National Guard donated a new gunnery school to be used by local schools. The school is still active today and helps to keep our community safe! In 1947, the national guard donated another gunnery school to be used by Daytona Beach High School. This school also helps to keep our community safe! Throughout the years, we have helped countless people in our community and we are grateful for all that we have done!

Oldsmar is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Oldsmar is part of the Naples-Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on State Road 441 about 20 miles east of Interstate 5 and 15 miles west of Marco Island. The first Europeans to visit Oldsmar were Spanish missionaries in 1778. By 1821, there were only three families living in the area: The Beardsleys, who became known as the "Oldsmar Pioneers" because they took up land from the Creek Nation; John Neely Bryan and his brother Jameson bought some land from them; and Julius Cates founded a tannery. In 1835, Neely Bryan built an independent church on what is now Fourth Street. The first post office was established here in 1836 by Jno Eustis with the name "Bryanville." A store and hotel followed soon after. In 1851, Augustus White arrived from Mobile with his family to start a cotton plantation called White Sands which eventually yielded over 2 million bales of cloth annually! In 1886 William Halsey erected a large brick block building that still stands today as Halsey's grocery store (now part of First Baptist Church). Mrs. Halsey donated her establishment to local school District No. 1 in 1922 for use as a library/theater complex which continued until 1984 when it was destroyed by fire due to neglect! In 1928 Drury Wills opened his hospital adjacent to his sawmill where he treated patients until his death in 1961! Today you can tour Drury Wills' old mill property located just off SR441 just south of historic Oldsmar!! On December 12th 1907 Oldsmar hosted its very own Cotton Bowl game between Vanderbilt University and Miami University! This event would become one of college football's most cherished memories thanks largely to George Halas who donated $10 000 towards play equipment for both teams! Halas also served as president or athletic director for both Miami and Vanderbilt Universities during this time period!!! Unfortunately less than two years later on January 6th 1908 Hurricane Flora struck landfall near Pensacola while making her way across America dumping more than 10 inches (25 cm) OF rain on parts of Florida including Oldsmar! Within minutes all power had been out at Pensacola Municipal Airport leaving much stranded citizens including many elderly citizens who bravely walked around without shoes or clothes!!!! One such individual was Mrs.... whose husband had died suddenly just before hurricane season began!!! All told over 50 homes were lost or damaged within minutes resulting in severe flooding along SR441!!! As we stand today looking back upon this entire tragedy many people may ask “What could have been?” Well let us never forget how these locals responded not only during but also after Flora caused extensive damage!!!

In 1812, the first national guard regiment was raised in Florida. The Guard was disbanded after the war. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln created the National Guard Bureau to organize and manage the country’s military forces for law enforcement and defense purposes. In 1967, Congress passed an amendment authorizing the president to call up U.S. military personnel for temporary duty in any time of emergency without congressional approval as needed for “the purpose of performing functions of a militia which are not otherwise contemplated by this Constitution or by laws of the United States” The National Guard was re-authorized on December 10th, 1970 under section 301(a) of Publius 101-148 which provides: “The President may request from each State such numbers as he considers necessary to carry out his duties as Commander-in-Chief of all Federal Forces subject to State power” On September 11th, 2001, President George W Bush ordered all branches of government (executive branch including National Guard) into Readiness Mode due to terrorist threats across America. On October 25th 2001, 34 state governors called for formation of a standby force known as Operation Neptune Spear just days after 9/11 attacks On November 6th 2001 during Operation Neptune Spear, 183 Guardsmen were killed when their unit's helicopter crashed while on patrol outside Baghdad

Oldsmar is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,925 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Oldsmar was Hugh McClendon in 1824. A post office called Oldsmar was established in 1828, and remained in operation until 1851. In 1852, the town became a county seat of Monroe County with the merger of several other counties into that state. Oldsmar experienced some growth during the late 19th century as logging and farming took off on its bluffs overlooking Jacksonville Bay. However, by 1920 most of the commercial development had stopped due to competition from larger towns such as Jacksonville and St Petersburg. However, some businesses continued to operate until around 1990 when all but one closed down due to lack of business or natural resources; however, a few restaurants remain today including The Hermitage Restaurant which opened in 1922 and is still open today serving fresh seafood pasta dishes based on local ingredients sourced from reefs along the bayou that run through Oldsmar's waterfront location
