The history of navy gift giving goes back at least 100 years. In 1878, Commodore John Halsey organized a naval Christmas party at his home in Oldsmar. At that time, only men were allowed to attend so gifts were given by Commander James Fenton and other officers. The Commodore also gave away baskets filled with candy and treasures donated by citizens of Oldsmar. He was followed in 1889 by Vice Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison who organized a similar event at the old Jacksonville Barracks. Gifts were again given by Commodore Fenton and Rear Admiral George Stephenson with donations from individuals throughout Jacksonville County. In 1903, Rear Admiral John A Tilton organized a NavalChristmas party at Ybor City which featured an exhibit on torpedoes from the USS Holland (a decommissioned battleship). There was also refreshments for all guests and premiums for those who brought along cigars or whisky bottles! In 1916 Captain John Waddell organized a Norfolk Jamboree Party aboard USS Sims (an auxiliary cruiser) which included music, snacks and drinks for all passengers! It was also the first time that alcohol had ever been served aboard an American warship! In 1951 Rear Admiral Forrest Sherman organized a Tampa Bay Cruise Party onboard USS Buchanan (an auxiliary cruiser) which featured refreshments for all guests including cigars! That same year Captain Harry S Lipscomb presided over the first New Year's Eve celebration aboard USS Sims after its conversion into an auxiliary hospital ship! The next year saw another cruise party - this one featuring refreshments for everyone ashore on Key West before sailing back home later that night! A total of 234 navy parties have been held since 1903- proving Navy morale high during special occasions such as birthdays or christenings! Many different types of seafood are enjoyed during these events such as lobster rolls or crabcakes - both made fresh on board ship while underway! Today's navy members appreciate traditional naval gifts such as books about navigation or knots;USS t-shirts or hats; mugs or cups; calendars; digital cameras or video devices; radios; watches & clocks; plush slippers/shoe boxes; chocolates etc., but they also enjoy more recent innovations like smart phones which allow commanders to keep track of their ships' movements online while underway through squadron redesignations or real-time video streaming from secure cockpit locations ashore on warships across oceans!! Oldsmar is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Leeward metropolitan area. The community began as a small post office on November 3, 1892, and was named for J.P. Olds, an early settler in what would become Monroe County. The first store in Oldsmar opened its doors on December 12, 1893. The town's first school was built in 1904 and the first doctor was hired in 1907. In the 1920s and 1930s there were several large citrus orchards near Oldsmar; however those operations closed after World War II because of competition from Citrusville and other citrusgrowing towns across the state. However, during that time some local farmers did maintain orchard production until recently when all but one of their trees have since been removed due to disease or death caused by frosts/freezing temperatures over winter months (the exception being a lone tree left standing which continues to produce fruit). Oldsmar also had an important stage in history with the construction of Interstate 10 through its downtown area in 1957 which directly led to increased business and development around town as truckers stopped at stations along I-10 en route to supplies and other destinations further north or south on I-10
