The Air Force operates over 1,500 military aircraft and employs more than 100,000 people in more than 60 different locations worldwide. The service traces its origins to World War I, when the American Expeditionary Forces used French planes to transport troops across Europe. From this humble beginning, the military has grown into one of the world's largest militaries with a presence in over 200 countries. Air Force gift history began inOpa Locka, Florida in 1949 when General Curtis LeMay organized the Opa Locka Flying Tigers aerial combat squadron. After years of hard work and dedication by many individuals and organizations within the Air Force, including Opa Locka itself, today's Air Force is one of the most technologically advanced and diverse services on Earth. One of Air Force's primary responsibilities is to provide global defense against potential adversaries such as Russia and China. In commemoration of our nation's 150th birthday this year, we are honoring those who have dedicated their lives to supporting our Armed Forces through gifts from both within and outside of our community. This year’s air force gift history begins with Operation Anaconda which was spearheaded by then-Chief Master Sergeant (CMS) Rick Karpinski in memory of his fallen friends Sgt. First Class Clifford Kingman (Ret.) and Lt./Colonel Donnie Boatright (Ret.). These two brave men were killed during an active duty operation near Baghdad on February 3rd, 2003 while leading Company D 2/506th Infantry Regiment duringOperation Desert Storm al-Anbar Province Iraq). 506th Infantry Regiment was also later awarded 4 Distinguished Unit Citations for actions taken during Operation Anaconda including capture of an Iraqi artillery battery that had been firing on allied forces positions; destruction or destruction of enemy vehicles; suppression or disablement of hostile action; wounding or death OF Enemy soldiers/officers). In addition to these achievements there have been numerous individual members throughout Air Force who have given their time and effort for nothing but excellence within their field(s). Many members within AFRF give back through fundraising efforts which help support current operations as well as future endeavors; examples include former Chief Master Sergeant Rick Karpinski who continues his support through his organization America On The Ball which distributes donated clothing to local homeless shelters monthly since 2005; Colonel Donnie Boatright who created a foundation that supports scholarships for high school seniors from low income families located in Southwest Florida through grantsmanship programs managed by South Florida Community Foundation; Major Anthony Gutierrez whose donation funded new physical plant at Eglin AFB which allows greater accessibility for flying students and crews conducting research missions; Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Weir whose donation allowed Waco AAF To build Airstrip X-26B weather reconnaissance Aircraft); Captain Darrell Capps whose donation supported renovation & expansion inside Marine Corps Base Quantico after it was hit by a storm caused by Hurricane Katrina

Opa Locka, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County,Florida. Opa Locka was founded by Italian immigrants in the early 1920s and became an urban center after the opening of the Turnpike in 1926. The city grew rapidly during World War II as the large defense plants were built there. In the late 1960s and 1970s, Opa Locka experienced a dramatic increase in violence due to its proximity to Everglades National Park and its concentration of military bases. However, since the 1990s, Opa Locka has been experiencing a resurgence as a prosperous community with strong cultural ties to Italy and other worldwide destinations. Opatlocka was first settled by Italians who arrived in 1868 on sugarcane plantations near Miami Beach. By 1912, most of present-day Opatlocka had been developed when General George Armstrong Custer abandoned his ill-fated column at Tallahassee after being forced from Cuba by Fidel Castro's Bolsheviks. The area around where Opatlocka now stands was originally part of Indian Town which was established by Spanish settlers in 1763 along what is now Northwest Eighth Street between Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Second Avenue. In 1924, Mexican immigrants began settling here following passage of the Mexican Nationality Act which granted citizenship to Mexicans living abroad without proper documentation. This influx led to increased development including homes for teachers, farmers, bankers and other professionals who would commute into Miami each day for their work; however social tensions quickly arose based on language differences among these groups ( italicized text ). One incident thatled to further tension involved two groups of Mexicans: those coming from Pahokee Canyon (northwest side) who lived near Easley Road while those from Key Largo (southwest side) lived near Westchester Drive . On December 12th 1925 five men were killed when two cars filled with men highway robbers crashed into their parked carriages at night on Sunrise Highway just east of US 95 northbound exit number 2 . soon afterward several similar incidents took place throughout south central Florida ; alluding then Governor Mireya Diaz’ call for law enforcement officers “to deal sternly with criminals active within our borders” (). On January 6th 1928 Manuel Gomez San Miguel shot & killed two white men working behind the old Havana Cigar Plant west off NW Third Street; he claimed selfdefense because they had threatened him with racial slurs earlier that week (.pdf). A second shooting occurred less than three weeks later when Billy Burcham riding his bicycle found Carlos Sanchez firing shots out his window at another motorist west off SW Fourth Street before running away….A community meeting held on February 4th resulted in action being taken against illegal immigration by Mayor Joe Caruso ordering state troopers onto local streets nightly; this detente policy failed miserably as more Mexicans continued streaming into South Florida despite numerous warnings (). Thereafter sporadic gunfire ceased until September 8th 1933 wheningovernment troops raided an opal mine operated by Antonio Guerrero y Guevara along NW Seventh Avenue about one mile southeast of OPAL CO., INC., bearing torches & bayonets after finding evidence that eight employees had union organizing activities underway (); eleven people were arrested but no mines were destroyed or damaged..During this time both sides engaged in verbal abuse matches through loudspeakers as mobs gathered outside government buildings…The final straw came on November 9th 1933 when federal agents raiding Guerrero y Guevara’s mine discovered 100 pounds of opium hidden inside dummy rocks mined out nearby….. After much heated argument between federal agents&opal company managers over how&when&how much opium should be reveald(italics), investigations revealed José Gutierrez Orozco (later presidente de la Federacion Mexicana de Armas de Guerra)with connections to Colombian cocaine traffickers owning land adjacent thereto (& operation basecamp para el transporte de cocaina en estados Unidos); also herein lay evidence linking local police Sgt.(now sheriff) John Jansen(later convicted murderer &/or victim)(italics), James Daugherty(manager emeritus opal company),and Alberto Ramos(owner & foreman Traffic Control Company)—all charged criminally with conspiracy To Commit Murder…….. finally indictments wer brought against thirteen individuals including Ortiz 5 years later following guilty pleas from all but Ramos….. nearly every individual named previously indicted eventually served time jail time although only Ortiz received any prison sentence beyond probation……………. Despite many public appearances made by then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer urging leniency (), Texas Congressman Rick Perry twice introduced legislation seeking President Reagan’s cancellation of pardons issued to nineteen convicted murderers preceding his inauguration…..These efforts failed .)

Opa Locka, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 27,711 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County. Opa Locka was founded on November 5, 1926 by truck driver John Crouch and his wife Ruth. The original name for the community was "Creek Park." The first post office opened in 1927 and the name of the town changed to "Opa Locka" on October 12, 1928. On January 1, 1951, Opa Locka became an inner-city municipality when it annexed part of Collier County. On February 11, 1959, all of Miami-Dade County except for Opa Locka were merged into the new Miami metropolitan area (the GreaterMiami Area).
