The Naval Sea Systems Command (Navy) deployed the USS George Washington (CVN-73) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, air and land operations against ISIL in Iraq and Syria. The USS George Washington is the first ship to participate in this combatant command’s multinational naval presence since its inception as a service branch of the U.S. military in 1945. In November 2014, theGeorge Washington left Bremerton, Wash., for its deployment to Iraq via port of call at Kuwait. The purpose of this deployment was to deliver humanitarian assistance and improve interoperability with Iraqi Security Forces units during their fight against ISIL terrorist group. From December 1-December 10, 2014, the USS George Washington made two deployments to Qatar for Combined Task Force Hammer (CTF-Hammer), which was composed of ships from various nations working together to defeat ISIL terrorists in that country; these deployments marked an expansion of Navy’s maritime coalition effort outside of international waters. On January 12, 2015, it was announced that the USS George Washington had arrived at Incirlik Air Baseon February 3 and will be conducting airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria starting on March 7thcoinciding with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s visit to Istanbul%. On September 30th, 2016 USS Constitution Museum (LHD 4) donated 9 new masted sailing vessels including three cutters and five tugs totaling 485 tons each - making her one of only two museums in North America donating such large donations! She also donated 2 tugboats – one 240 feet long x 18 feet wide and one 198 feet long x 8 feet wide – making her total donation a total value over $1 million dollars! This donation brings our museum's collection up to 15 Vessels!

Opa Locka is located on State Road A1A, about 20 miles east of downtown Miami and 30 minutes away from Fort Lauderdale. The city was founded in 1912 by immigrants from Hungary and Romania who arrived on the ship "Eritrea" along with other passengers. The name Opa means 'mouth' or 'an opening in the earth.'locka (from Hungarian kacsa) was given to this location by Captain John P. Farrell during his survey of the area for a new military post around 1915-16. The first post office opened in 1916 and was named after Colonel Edward Dyer Laughlin, who had donated land for the station. In 1935, Laughlin donated another tract of land to Opa Locka to help support its growth. The Post Office moved to its current location on Northwest First Street in 1939 and continued operations until it closed in 1971 due to budget cuts by then-Postmaster General James Byrnes Sr.. Due to its proximity to downtown Miami, Opa Locka experienced rapid growth beginning around 1950; however much of that growth stopped shortly thereafter when Interstate 95WA was built through central Palm Beach County cutting off access to much of what used to beOpalockaa's agricultural output which continues today as a major source of employment for locals both inside and outside of town."
