Coffee has been a popular drink in Orlando for over sixty years. The first coffee shop opened up on Main Street in 1912. In the 1920s, many people started to move away from their farms and moved to town. They wanted to have access to all the new technologies that were happening in America. When they got here, they started importing coffee from Europe. This made coffee very expensive and it didn’t really catch on until after World War II when everyone started starting their own businesses. After that, it became more common for people to get coffee at home or at a restaurant. The first commercial coffee shop was called The Coffee Shoppe and it was located on Orange Avenue near Central Boulevard. It was open from 9am-6pm everyday until 1964 when it closed down because of pollution problems. After that, you would usually find cafes much closer to University Place like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts which are now iconic places in the cityscape of Orlando! Nowadays, there are so many different types of coffees available that you can find something for everyone! Some people like darker roasts while others prefer lighter ones. There is also a lot of variety when it comes to beans: Sumatra, Ethiopian, French Roast, etc…. You could even try some new flavors if you’re feeling adventurous!

Starbucks Corporation is based out of Seattle, Washington and they are known for their innovative coffee drinks such as lattes, macchiatos, cortados and blends.

Spanish colonists in Florida discovered Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) plantation coffees which soon became popular there because of its unique flavor profile. World War II caused a great variety of changes when caffeine was added as an ingredient to many wartime munitions like gasoline and propellants. After World War II, more people started enjoying cups of Joe instead of cans or boxes full of printed pictures because they could now enjoy fresh pressed coffee whenever they wanted without having to go out into the cold weather! Some people still prefer canned or boxed java even though fresh made coffee is definitely better!
