The United States Air Force has a long history in Ormond Beach, Fla. It began as the "Ormond Beach Squadron" of the First World War and quickly became one of America's most important air forces. Today, the USAF operates more than 160 bases throughout the country and provides support to nearly 60% of all American combat missions. The USAF is responsible for Operation Neptune's Spear – which was responsible for liberating Afghanistan from the Taliban – and plays an essential role in peacekeeping operations around the world. The service also maintains a strong relationship with its Dutch partner, Noorduynaveld-Hertogenbosch Air Base, providing training opportunities for both military members and civilian personnel. On Nov. 5, 1941, Congress authorized President Franklin D. Roosevelt to establish the Second Air Force as a subordinate branch of the Department of War with headquarters at Orlando Army Field (now Orlando International Airport). The RAF was activated on Feb. 15, 1942 at Tallahassee Army Airfield under command of Fifth Air Force Commander Colonel Harold Ickes. With an initial strength totaling 3200 men – including 750AAF pilots – Ninth AF was established at Ormond Beach on May 1st following activation at Daytona Beach Navy Yard; it included 350 AAF pilots and ground crews plus air traffic controllers (ATCs) stationed at several field hospitals along I-95 near Jacksonville Bayou during Long Island Sound blimp flights between New York City Center and Big Island Airport during early summer 1942! By late summer 1942 Ninth AF had grown to 4500 men including 1200AAF pilots while Eighth AF remained stationary at Tallahassee with only 100AAF Pilots assigned to it! On September 8th Third AF activated in Rabonville Army Depot with 400AAF Pilots under command before moving south toolless Ormond Beach NAS on October 10th just prior to landfall by Hurricane Hugo! In February 1943 Ninth AF moved again when Fourth ADF activated in Stuttgart German Arsenal arriving there from Alachua AFB Florida where it had been located since November 1942 until that time! Finally Tenth ADF arrived from Tuskegee AFB Alabama on May 19th 1944 after being activated Oct 25th 1943! This last activation brought about changes within operational commands including Seventh ADF becoming Tactical Fighter Command (TF-6) which controlled B-29 Superfortresses while Eighth ADF continued flying P-38 Lightning fighters but also convertedibles into Liberator bombers! On September 2nd 1945 Tenth ADF relocated yet again when Fifteenth ADF activate at Offenbach AB Germany coming from Weisbaden AB Netherlands having been located there since March 1944 until that time! In total Tenth ADC relocation followed 9 active commands/areas: Third FAA - Florida; Fourth FAA - Germany; Fifth FAA - Stuttgart German Arsenal; Sixth FAA - Tuskegee AFB Alabama; Seventh ADAFC - Tactical Fighter Command (TF-6); Eighth ADAFC - P-38 Lightnings; Ninth ADAFC - Ninth AF"; Tenth ADCactivate At Offenbach AB Germany From Weisbaden AB Netherlands

In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized development of the F-15 Eagle jet fighter aircraft and its subsequent purchase of 1,500+ units throughout the USAF inventory across all platforms including production models (Eagle I and II), test beds, simulator equipment, software tools, training resources and more. This move initiated what is now known as "the modernization era" of American aviation which has continues to this day. Today's USAF operates over 2 million square kilometers (1 million sq mi) of airspace comprising some 30% of global airspace usage with an estimated disposition rate above 99%. Aircraft operations have grown from a few hundred civilian flights per day in World War II to more than 20 thousand per day today. The USAF has 463 bases worldwide with a manned or unmanned presence providing multiple services critical to our national security such as energy supply, counterterrorism/counterinsurgency response & intelligence gathering; transport support for NATO forces; Global Hawk aerial photo reconnaissance; public safety missions such as Search and Rescue; electronic warfare capabilities against adversaries like North Korea or Iran while also maintaining deterrence through nuclear deterrence exercises along with many other important roles that support America's global leadershippositioning

Ormond Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Ormond Beach is located on the east coast of Florida's Indian River Lagoon and is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. It is adjacent to Kissimmee and Sanford. Ormond Beach began as a small community on Daytona's east side in 1878. In 1925, Ormond Beach became an incorporated municipality with a population of 515 people. In 1960, it became an unincorporated community and has since been listed as part of Brevard County's "Mission District". The name "Ormond" comes from the fact that oranges were grown in the area and early settlers named their houses for oranges because they could not find any other fruit trees local to them. The first post office in Ormond Beach opened on July 6, 1862; it was renamed Daytona on December 12th that year by act of Congress under the name Orangeburgh Post Office after General David Cushing's military victory over Confederate forces at Fort Donelson in Tennessee two days earlier. By 1900, there were 8 mailboxes within or near present-day Ormond Beach proper; only 2 remained by 2000. Mail service between Daytona and Orlando stopped during World War II due to bombing raids but resumed after the war ended; today mail service continues between both cities via overnight truckloads operating out of US Airways Station Miami International Airport (MIA). In 1925, developer Wernher von Braun designed what would become known as Cape Canaveral Air Force Station - one of America’s earliest high altitude research facilities - which served as home for American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin during their Apollo 11 mission into space; Armstrong would also airlift supplies to Space Center Atoll before landing his Eagle lander there five days later for repairs following hisorbit insertion mission atop Apollo 13 on July 20th! Von Braun also built Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral AFB where Operation Seaquest lifted six U2 satellites from Earth orbit aboard AMSAT 1 – North America’s first satellite reconnaissance satellite – on October 26th 1969! Today that complex remains operationally active providing launch services for NASA’s Aqua spacecraft!
