The Spanish colonists brought this method of roasting with them when they came to America in the 16th century. Kappeler's Coffee Company became one of the most successfuland influential caffeine companies of its time. Ormond Beach is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1878 by Elisha Ormond and his family after they bought 100 acres (40 ha) of land near what is now Jacksonville. The first post office in Ormond Beach was established in 1879. In 1905, the town annexed to Jacksonville. Ormond Beach's rich history can be found from its early days when farmers and fishermen brought their produce to Ormond Beach for market sale or shipment; to its years as an agricultural center for cattle operation; and finally to its current role as a bedroom community for Jacksonville residents and tourists alike. During World War II, many soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Myers came ashore through Duval County looking for work and started a grocery store called Camp Store on Indian Harbor Blvd right next door to today's Shriners Hospitals Jacksonville Campus across from Jax Mall - which opened in 1951 followed by another store onland adjacent to today's JC Penney before that store closed circa1978 leaving behind one Last One open until 2003 inside Jax Mall before being sold off again.. Ormond Beach was founded in 1881 by J.P. Morgan and his partners, General James H. Wilkinson and W. Troup Wilson. The town developed around the area of present-day Ormond Beach, east of the Intracoastal Waterway, which at that time was part of Florida's panhandle. In 1915, Ormond Beach became a city when it merged with nearby Fort Pierce. In 1926, Ormond Beach annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of Sun City to become one municipality under its jurisdiction. That same year, the city built a new Civic Center on First Street in downtown Ormond Beach to serve as its central offices and meeting space. The Municipal Court Building followed in 1929 and is still used today as municipal hall; the City Hall Annex also stands within walking distance of both buildings. Ormond Beach experienced difficult times during World War II due to the war effort, but recovered rapidly following hostilities ended in 1945. By 1972, however, economic recession had taken their toll and the city faced financial difficulties again; it failed to achieve re-election for mayor until 2003 despite spending nearly $2 million on campaign contributions that year alone. Despite this setback, Ormond Beach has since made progress through several efforts spearheaded by Mayor Tony Moran including creating a Downtown Development Authority which facilitates citizen input into proposed projects downtown; initiating renovations to several local businesses (e.g., Sun City Grille), creating an online marketing program that leads to increased tourism arrivals; establishing an official policy against discrimination among individuals or groups based upon race or national origin; developing new programming opportunities for youth within the city limits such as summer camps and arts programs; and increasing access to affordable housing options throughout its core areas. Today, Ormond Beach is home to more than 10K residents who enjoy easy access to world-class beacheside attractions like Clearwater Harbor Marina & Pier (the largest marina west of Miami) as well as ample shopping opportunities at various malls within walking distance (Mall Of America) or drive away street addresses (Downtown Disney)
