Ormond Beach is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Anaheim metropolitan area. Ormond Beach has been a town since 1887 and was given its name from Ormond Island in Lake Monroe. The first settler in what is now Ormond Beach was John Sneath who arrived in 1795 with his family from Great Britain and named his new land "Ormond" after the Isle of Skye in Scotland. In 1837, Nicholas Moore established himself as a farmer on land that today makes up most of Ormond Beach. He also developed what is now downtown Ormond Beach which included the first store on Ocean Boulevard and the first post office. The town's history can be traced back to when it was organized as an unincorporated community on October 24, 1887 by J.D. Potter, editor of "The Jacksonville Sentinel". The community voted to name itself after local politician James C.
