The wing was a result of the Second World War Treaty of Paris which ended the conflict between Nazi Germany and the Allies. The wing was activated on September 16, 1948 and its first mission was to bomb German targets in France. The 189th Bombardment Wing was activated on October 15, 1948 and replaced the 185th. The wing's mission was to bomb Japanese targets in southern Japan. It flew its first missions from Miamisburg Airport on November 1, 1948. In 1952, the 190th Bombardment Wing was activated and replaced both wings. Its mission was to fly McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawks from Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. It also served as an air refueling base for Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. On October 1, 1957, the 191st Bombardment Wing was activated at Eglin AFB Florida and it became responsible for flying Boeing B-29 Superfortresses from MacDill AFB Tampa FL until it moved to Kadena AB Okinawa on April 25, 1960 when all Boeing bombers were grounded due to a fault with one engine aboard one aircraft. On June 15 1961 all planes were returned home after being repaired at Kadena AFB Inoue Japan with three days notice before their next deployment would begin which would be bombing North Korea but they never arrived there as they were shot down over South Korea by United States fighter jets while en route

The first settlers in what is now Oviedo were Native American men and women who traveled down the St. Johns River from Canada during the early 1800s for trade with Spain. They named their new community after Juan Ponce de León's expedition that landed on what is now Tampa Bay in 1513. In 1868, Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto discoveredand named it after him because he thought it would be a good place to land his army of 600 soldiers to explore this new land that he had found. In 1901, Oviedo was platted as a city by Jules Bachelet and Official Order No. 1 established its government under municipal law only six months after its inauguration date! The citizens of Oviedo soon got behind their new city and began building their homes and businesses." (Civic History of Oviedo) Their success led to further development which included the construction of many roads and bridges including Interstate 95 which connected central Florida with Miami-Dade County; two large shopping malls - University Mall and Gulf Coast Plaza - as well as several high-rise buildings such as Panama City Towers; an arena/Multi-purpose complex known today as the Covelli Center; numerous parks including North Park (now part of Gulf Coast Plaza), South Park (now part of University Mall), Aquarium Park, Boulevard park just outside downtown – nearly all developed since Bachelet's time – plus an existing streetcar line serving various parts of town until it was replaced by automobiles beginning in 1958; major league baseball’s first team ever playing here when Oovio Tigers made history against New York Yankees at Municipal Stadium on July 20th, 1903 A post office has been operating continuously inuvialco mail service since 1872 when mail was brought overland from San Francisco via Mobile Bayou

As part of NATO there were plans for member Governments to develop their own air forces but these plans never came to fruition due to problems caused by different budgetary constraints within each country. During 1948–49 a program called Project RANDI was initiated which aimed to develop concept designs for advanced bombers using technology then available only in Europe (the CIA funded this project). These concept designs would eventually become known as Boeing 707s which would make up part of America’s strategic Airlift Forces structure during Cold War times!
