Oviedo, Florida is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County area of south Florida. It is bordered by Kendall on the west and north, Cutler on the east, and Miami Lakes on the south. The turnpike prompted development around it including many businesses and homes that continue to be prominent today. Oviedo experienced its heyday during World War II when it became one of the most important military posts in southern Florida due to its location near Tampa Bay along Interstate 20 and its ability to produce goods needed for war production such as munitions and vehicles. However, after the war ended there were significant declines in population due to numerous social changes including suburbanization and job relocation away from military bases. This has led to a continuing decline in importance over time with only 2% growth registered between 2000 and 2010 while total employment decreased by 5%. oviedo's status has been further undermined by plans announced last year by county commissioners to reduce funding for public services throughout south Florida due to budget deficits caused by economic recession aside from struggles faced by local businesses trying hard enough despite these challenges

The CDP covers an area of 7 square miles (18 km2). It contains one high school, three elementary schools, two middle schools and one postsecondary school. The history of Oviedo begins with a group of settlers who arrived in 1892 from Illinois. They named their new settlement after José de Oviedo y Gómez, an explorer who had explored this area during the 16th century. In 1896, the city was incorporated and began to grow rapidly due to its location on the Gulf Coast between Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. Today, Oviedo is home to both a large cultural center known for its art galleries and museums as well as several shopping malls that offer unique shopping experiences for residents and tourists alike.

A railroad arrived in Oviedo in 1887 and began to grow the economy; local mills became well known for their quality cloth products exported to Europe. The first school here opened in 1889, followed by a post office in 1893. Development accelerated during World War I which caused an increase in population as soldiers came to stay and businesses boomed with machine shops, light industries, automobiles, clothing plants, etc., creating new jobs for locals and helping to drive up prices of goods throughout the area. During the 1920s there was a growth of aviation; two small airports were built here: Oviedo Municipal Airport (now Dona Ana Regional Airport) in 1923 and Key Field Airport (later Key Largo Beach Airport) in 1928. With world trade booming during this time, more people started moving into Oviedo; many factories closed down as production shifted overseas or moved south into Mexico City because of cheap labor available there. However, some continue to prosper such as IBM’s main research lab which is still located here today (the original building remains). In 1945 America entered World War II; by then all but one airport had been closed due to wartime concerns about air-raids potential damage or lack thereof on key targets such as Los Alamos Laboratory near Albuquerque NM – this airport reopened after war hostilities ended just prior to America’s entry into WW2 . After WWII there rapid development continued with many new homes being built along Main Street including vacation rentals units called “Pelican Pines” starting around 1950-1951 while other businesses grew quickly like Home Depot beginning 1966 later becoming one of largest employers located inside city limits outside major retail stores like Sears & Roebuck
