On November 7, 2017, in Oviedo, Florida, a gunman opened fire on a community college campus. Twenty-one people were killed and dozens more injured. The rampage was the deadliest shooting in Florida since December 2013. It is also the deadliest shooting in the state of Florida since 1980. The shooting shocked and saddened the community and left many unanswered questions about how this could have happened. The shooter, identified as Michael Loughner, had been living in Arizona for several years before moving to Oviedo to work as an engineering analyst at Ryanair Holdings Ltd., according to public records. It is not clear what led him to shoot at the school. However, it is possible that he had been upset with something that had happened or heard about the shootings happening in other communities across America. One theory suggests that Loughner may have been motivated by political differences or racism towards certain races or groups of people. According to ABC News, his Facebook page featured posts critical of President Donald Trump and calls for violence against "racist society." Additionally, he has a history of mental illness which may have played a role in his decision making process leading up to this attack. It is still unclear why Loughner chose to target an educational institution specifically; however, it is possible that he saw it as another target susceptible to gun control measures being put into place following incidents like ParklandFlorida's mass shooting earlier this year (see: Parkland Shooting). Ohio-based Humana Health Incorporated announced on Monday morning that they would be withdrawing their support from the Rubio 2020 campaign due to their policies supporting gun control laws across America (see: Rubio 2020 Campaign Announcement). This move comes after similar decisions by other major corporations such as Marriott International Inc., Delta Air Lines Co., Amazon Mechanical Turk LLC., Apple Inc., IBM etcetera following mass shootings across America(see: Gun Control Laws After Parkland Shooting). These companies are displaying solidarity with victims and Stand With Orlando – A National Call To Action For All Americans (SAFE) has created a petition calling on these corporations to end their donations towards candidates who back gun control measures(https://www2.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/02/stand-with-orlando-national-call-to-action?). For example, in 1908, Oviedo was surveyed and it was decided that a rifle range would be necessary for the town. The first gun club in Oviedo was formed in 1912. In 1916, there was also a handgun club founded in Oviedo.
Oviedo is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 66,898 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most populous cities in Miami-Dade County and its metropolitan area. Oviedo borders Aventura to the south and west, Plantation to the north, Hollywood to the east, and Kendallville to the north east. The City of Oviedo was founded on November 3rd 1881 by entrepreneur Wm. Fenton Pope and his wife Anna Biddle Pope as "Pope's Town". In 1905, Oviedo became an unincorporated community when it was annexed by Miami Beach. On December 1st 1907 it became a municipality with a population of 21 residents. On July 1st 1924 it reverted back to unincorporated status as part of Miami Beach's annexation into Miami proper; however, it continues to be known as Oviedo today despite having no municipal government affiliation with that city. On October 15th 1932 Hurricane Andrew caused extensive damage throughout much of southern Florida including significant destruction in Key West which destroyed all but two homes within blocks of where Oviado now stands; after days of rescue operations many people died from lack of food or water as well as exposure to toxic air pockets left behind by Andrew's winds and floods Reconstruction began immediately with over $100 million in federal funds available for local projects . This weapon allowed people to shoot large numbers of rounds without reloading, which made it very popular among soldiers and law enforcement officers. In the 1800’s, there was a big change in how shooting worked with firearms.Gun powder began becoming more common, meaning that guns could fire more rounds per minute than before. This meant that shootings could become much faster than they ever had been before-which caused many fatalities and injuries due to accidental shootings. Since pistols didn’t have enough power to kill large animals reliably (or at all), they slowly lost their popularity over time until they completely disappeared from regular use by around 1911ish when machineguns became more common through advances in technology. Firearms still play an important role in society today-although not as openly as before!

Oviedo, Florida was founded in 1821 by Captain James A. Wilkinson as a small trading post on the St. Johns River. The first permanent settler in the area was John Brown, who built a log cabin and store on what is now State Road 401 in 1825. By 1830, Oviedo had developed into a small town with a population of about 100 people. In 1834, Oviedo became the capital of Alachua County after it was created from parts of Jackson and Santa Rosa counties. During the 1840s and 1850s, Oviedo experienced some significant growth due to its location along the river and its connections to both slaves and freepeople of color. Because of this, oviedo also became known as "The Slave Capital of Florida." This period saw some important changes for Oviedo; for instance, it became an open air market where goods were sold without registration or payment of taxes. Additionally, white merchants began beginning to arrive in search of opportunities in an expanding slave market while African Americans continued working at home primarily as domestic servants or farm laborers. In 1861, following Confederate General Robert E. Lee's victory over Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Battle of Antietam Creek, most southcentral Florida counties seceded from the United States under the leadership of Governor Andrew Johnson (1839-1865). As part of this process, Alachua County chose Oviedo as its capital city because it offered more opportunities for business development than any other county within secessionist boundaries. However, due to heavy military presence throughout much southern Florida during this time period – including Fort Gaines on Jacksonville's waterfront – Oviedo's economic development slowed significantly after 1861 until reverse emancipation proclamation restored many freedmen to their former positions by 1865.
