In 1923, the Florida Air National Guard was activated and assigned toPalatka County. On February 15, 1924, the Palatka County Sheriff's Department was organized with a gift of one rifle from the United States Air Force. On May 4, 1927, the first air show in Florida was held at Everglades Park. The Palatka County Fair was also held that year and admission cost $1 per person. In 1929-30 two Cessna "Pilots" were donated by Major General Edward P. Smith of the Alabama Air National Guard as surplus property of the United States Navy. These planes were used for flying experimental tests and for providing transportation for personnel on Army maneuvers at Everglades Park in 1930-31. The USAF stationed its Commanding Officer at Everglades Park from 1931 until it withdrew in 1936. In 1935 a Lockheed Constellation airplane was donated by Major General Harold Ickes of the USAF to be used as a primary training aircraft for RAF pilots cadets at Rangoon (now Yangon) Airport outside Burma during World War II; this plane is now preserved at RAF Scampton near Lincolnshire, England
Palatka is a small, rural town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1851 by J.D. Palatka and his brother-in-law Sam Catlett as a farming community on the east bank of the Kissimmee River. By 1860, Palatka had become an important shipping point on the St. Johns River due to its location near two major highways: US 1 and SR 441 (now Interstate 4). In 1870, J.D.'s grandson John Denton purchased land from the Catlett family and built a large cotton gin and distillery called East Pines Landing on what is now Main Street. This made Palatka one of the most important cotton ports in Florida until it closed its doors in 1916 because of World War I munitions production restrictions. In 1925, palatkanee began referring to themselves as "the people" rather than "the natives". The change may have been driven by cultural differences; some local people found it difficult to differentiate between ethnicity and culture when they first encountered outsiders living among them withouticultural norms that discouraged such differentiation. In 1942, during World War II, many refugees from then-occupied Japan moved into Palatka after being displaced by Allied forces during V-E Day hostilities; these refugees were known locally as "Japans". As Japanese American citizens who sometimes exhibited unique cultural features (), they were not considered native residents or aliens under US law but rather national origin individuals (). Consequently, much remains unknown about early Palatka history – including what specifically led some locals to adopt this new identity – despite extensive research over several decades conducted by various scholars affiliated with Rollins College's department of anthropology (). As post-World War II suburban development spread through southwest Florida and north Georgia., so too did interest in learning more about early settlers and their descendants who had chosen PALATKA as their home – both those who had directly experiencedPalatkanee culture while living there postwar (primarily men) and those who had emigrated thereafter (such as women) for variety reasons including job opportunities or educational advantagesregardless of race or ethnicity (). Various oral histories interviews with key figures from throughoutPalatka's history have been conducted since 2006 by historians at Rollins College’s Department of Anthropology (); these interviews provide valuable insights into how local residents viewed themselves vis-à-vis other groups () and offer a detailed view into how today’s PALATKAers interact with one another ().

Palo Alto, Florida is located in the Pensacola Bay Area of south-central Florida. The area has been inhabited by the Apalachicola people for over a thousand years. The first European to visit the area was Captain James Cook in 1778. He named it "NewSouth Wales" after his homeland, Australia. Palatka was founded in 1881 as a town on the larger island of Santa Rosa, which then lay at the mouth of Fort Myers River. In 1922, parts of Santa Rosa were annexed into Palm Beach County and Palatka became a city within that county. Part of Virgil Goode's original land grant from King George III included present day Palm Beach and Miami counties. In 1928, Goode sold most of his land to Averill Harriman for $2 million dollars (the equivalent of $102 million today). In 1942, during World War II,Palatka served as an airbase for American forces during operations against Axis forces on Cuba and Central America. After hostilities ended in 1945,Palatka returned to its pre-war status as a small town with a population of about 5,000 residents. On November 1st 1948 – more than 60 years after its founding –Palatka became part of Volusia County when that county was created from portions of Broward and Miami counties. Throughout its history Palatka has experienced significant growth; however, due to limited acreage and infrastructure development throughout the late 20th century much progress has not occurred until recently including an expansion into new downtown areas along with major redevelopment projects such as The Villages shopping center which opened in early 2007 adjacent to Sanford Stadium (now home to University Of Florida)
The Palatka, Florida community began as a small farming and fishing village on the banks of the Kissimmee River in 1837. By 1861, it had grown to include a post office, a store, and several farms. The first white settlers arrived in Palatka in 1848, and by 1868, there were more than 100 people living here. In 1906, Palatka was incorporated as a town. The population grew rapidly during the 20th century; by 1925, it had reached 1,500 people. In 1970, Palatka became an unincorporated community again.
