Airforce gift history in Palatka, Florida began with the United States Air Force's first gift to the city on December 10, 1947. The gift was a C-47 Flying Fortress aircraft which had been donated by Colonel Harry Truman. The plane was used for training and transport of USAF personnel and their families during World War II. It served as the City's primary airport until it closed in 1954. The Air Force also donated two F-94 Starfighters to the city in 1956 and 1958. These planes were used for air defense and fire support missions in Palatka. They remain property of the City government today and are used for public education purposes. In 1959, United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) arrived in Palatka with its own Boeing 727 jet Airliners. This represented an important milestone for the City because it marked the beginning of a long relationship between USAFE and local aviation companies that continues to this day. PALATKA AIRPORT WAS FIRST TO USE A 727 FOR FLIGHT SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY! In 1966, USAAF Base McEntire was opened in Palatka by then Vice President Lyndon Johnson as part of Operation Neptune's Spear, which aimed at destroying North Vietnam's military capability across all sectors including ground forces and air force units. Inaugurated by Mrs. Betty Ford, then Mayor Jukasiewicz dedicated three Boeing E-4B Thunderchiefs from McGuire AFB located adjacent to USAAF Base McEntire to conduct overflights over Tampa Bay providing photography opportunities for citizens of Tampa Bay area who would never have been able to see these assets from their homes! Mrs Ford also attended a live launch ceremony from USS George Washington (CVN 73) off Naval Station Mayport!. She is recognized as one of missile Pioneer Day’s most memorable moments! Additionally, four McDonnell Douglas DC-9 Aircraft were delivered into service with RAF Strathclyde Airport Ltd., now Glasgow International Airport; RAF Coningsby; RAF Lakenheath; and DJM Harelbeke - as part of NATOAIRCRAFT PROGRAMME 'DEEP WATER OPERATIONS AGAINST NVA'.DJM Harelbeke - future home of Dutch Aerospace Industries - became operational on 15th August 1969 when an Airbus A310 took off from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with British Airways' Chief Operating Officer Ron Atkinson on board enjoying his first flight within NATO airspace! On 4th October 1969 five McDonnell Douglas MD-80´s become Operational at RAF Brize Norton after being delivered new onto base following delivery Sat Separate 1968 PIB SB2268/02 GBRP . FAA awards Certificate OF Registration Feb 1970.' Today, PALATKA AIRPORT is home to more than 650 air traffic control facilities Worldwide!!!

Palatka, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1881 by J.C. Penney as a wagon stop on the Chattahoochee River between Mobile and Pensacola. The first post office was established in Palatka on October 26, 1881, and remained in operation until it closed on September 14, 1888. The first school opened in Palatka on November 3, 1881. It served grades K-8 and was operated by Mrs. Hinson until 1903 when it became an all-boy school under Mr. Gentry's ownership and management until 1924 when it became an all-female school under Mrs. Greenoughs' ownership and management for 25 years before becoming a public high school again from 1969 to 2001 with Msgr.'s supervision). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. The USAF gift history goes back to World War II when the United States first entered the conflict. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9981, which authorized the establishment of air forces within the United States. The Air Force was activated on April 12th, 1942 and was composed of two wings: The Eighth Air Force and The Ninth Air Force. Throughout the war, both wings were involved in combat operations against Nazi Germany and Japan. In 1945, following World War II, Congress passed a bill providing for the organization of a permanent military force within the United States called the National Security Act of 1947. This act created an all-volunteer military structure with headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland. On September 18th, 1947, President Harry S Truman signed into law Amendment V to that legislation creating The USAF as a separate branch of government with its own budget and general officers system. On December 15th 1946 General Omar Bradley took command of Allied Forces Europe which included elements of The USAAF under his command. After successfully defeating Japan in 1945 and capturing Berlin in 1949 NATO declared Germanys defeat and dissolvedthe Wehrmacht which left behind an organisation consisting solelyof Army generals who were not able to maintain order or posed any threat to Allied security interests
The town of Palatka, Florida was founded in 1892 by men who drove a herd of cattle from Texas. The town grew quickly, and soon had a school, post office, hotel, and grocery store. By the end of the century, Palatka had become an important center on the Gulf Coast. In 1933, during the Great Depression, Palatka became one of the first towns to receive stimulus money from President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program. In 1935, Palatka got its own water system. In 1939 (just after World War II began), Palatka joined with nearby Stonington to form what is now known as Broward County. During World War II,Palatka played host to many American soldiers and their families who were stationed at Fort Pierce Naval Base (later renamed Fort Lauderdale Naval Base). After the war ended in 1945, many residents decided to stay in Palatka and start anew. In 1951-1954, Palatka hosted Expo '51 which showcased American products to world markets. A new shopping mall called The Mall was built in 1965 and served as the town's primary shopping area until it was closed down in 2003 due to concerns about fire hazards caused by intense traffic patterns at that time near Interstate 95/US 1 intersection
The Palatka, Florida community began as a small farmingstead on the banks of the St. Johns River in 1837. The first settler was A.M. Shipp, who built a cabin on what is now the corner of Third Street and Fourth Avenue in 1837. By 1840, there were six residents living in Palatka Township; two men, John Sells and James Piggott, each owned one-third of the township land. In 1846, George Larkin purchased 1/4 acre (0.24 km2) of land east of Third Street from Shipp for $10 worth of blackberries and pineapples. In 1865, J.L. Dooley acquired another 1/4 acre (0.24 km2) from Larkin for $5 worth of apples and oranges trees). For most of its history until 1917, Palatka Township was known as "Fruitland". On January 7, 1907, the town charter was approved by the Florida Legislature and became a city under an act passed that same year by then Governor Manuel López de León On February 3rd 1907 Mayor Jerald Hickey proclaimed Fruitland a city with its own council consisting only of mayor and four officers: fireman; clerk; engineer; surveyor; and water commissioner
