Palatka, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Palatka is known for its Pottersville shopping center and several golf courses. The first settlers in what is now Palatka were German immigrants who arrived there in 1835 from Würzburg, Germany. They named their community "Nussbaum" after the Nussbaum family farm where they resided. By 1840, the town had a post office and two churches. In 1847, a sawmill was built and by 1850, Palatka had four stores and six homes. By 1860, the population had grown to 10 people and on July 8 of that year, an act of Congress created Polk County which included present-day Palatka within its boundaries. In 1865-66 when US Highway 441 was routed through central Florida via Kissimmee instead of going south through Sanford as it currently does - this changed much about life in Palatka; mostly because most goods that were brought down Highway 441 needed to be transported overland from Sanford or delivered by wagonloads to be sold into Central Florida; thus bypassing much of rural Polk County altogether The development of Interstate 95 made transportation more difficult so many businesses closed down during this time period including one store that still stands today called Donelson's Hardware Company In additionpalatka experienced rapid growth due to horseback racing which led to numerous new mills being built along with some large houses becoming available for sale After World War II there was continued growth as more people moved into suburban areas outside of town while some businesses started up again such as Donelson's Hardware Company which closed but reopened later as KFC

Palatka, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to Palatka were William and Mary Hurlbut in 1836. A post office was established here in 1837 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The townsite that now lies within Palatka was platted on March 15, 1907 by J.D. Sprague and Wm.H. Richardson of Kissimmee as the site for their new town investment called "Emmitts Plantation". The name "Palatka" was chosen because it had been used by two previous landowners as their place of residence: James Emmitt and his son George Emmitt (1810-1885). In 1911, Palatka's first school opened; it served grades one through twelve with instruction conducted by Mrs Anna Laddis from a rented shack on the corner of First Street and Third Avenue. In 1925, the first high school building was built with funds raised by local businesses along First Street between US 41st and US 67th Avenues; this structure still stands today (replaced by the current high school building) and serves as the county's only high school educationally accredited educational institution which also offers adult education courses leading to college degrees across many different areas including business administration, engineering/technology/manufacturing, law enforcement/judicial service/paralegalism etc., as well as professional development opportunities for area citizens who wish to continue their learning after completing high school or beyond! In 1930, an addition to the high school complexWas added housed a library which functioned concurrently with both schools until 1974 when funding became available for its own construction separate from both schools - this library remains open today (1997) under new management entity named West Hills Library System Incorporated.) In 1984-1985 a park system developed adjacent to what is now known as East High School which included an amphitheater seating 80000 people making it one ofAmerica's largest open air amphitheaters at that time! As part of this park system growth efforts numerous features such as playgrounds tennis courts basketball courts softball fields gymnasium etc were constructed thru grant money received from various civic organizations throughout Polk Countylinklater merged into City Beautiful Parks Foundation Incorporated.) On February 10th 2006 Palatka voters passed Ordinance No 2 establishing a Town Open Space located just east off Main Street near Lake Worth Presbyterian Church !! This ordinance establishes guidelines for future plans regarding land use within Town Open Space code specifically addressing public access means possible future water usage restrictions should there be any increases or decreases in population density within Town Open Space!)
Palatka, Florida was founded in 1884 by W.H. Emory and his wife Anna as a trading post on the St. Johns River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1904 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1907, the town incorporated as a city under the name of Palatka. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with its population reaching over 50,000 people. After the war, the city experienced another period of growth with its population reaching 100,000 people in 1960. The city then went through a period of decline with its population dropping below 50,000 people until 2000 when it regained its previous level of popularity.
