Palatka, Florida is a small town in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The Palatka post office opened on March 15, 1892, and closed on December 4, 1954. The first settlers in what is now Palatka were James Fenton and his family who came fromHuntingdon County, Pennsylvania in 1849. In 1906-1907 the town incorporated as a village under the name of "Cape Coral." On July 1st 1907 it changed its name to "Palatka" after Major General George Armstrong Custer who had died in battle two years earlier while suppressing Native American forces at the Battle of Little Big Horn near Fort Sheridan Illinois. In 1925 Palatka incorporated as a city with a population of 30,000 people but only had 8 miles (13 km) of paved road and no hospitals or other medical facilities. The city was dissolved by an act of the state legislature on December 14th 1929 due to budget cuts which left it with 9 inhabitants out of an assessed total population of 120 which included all unincorporated areas east and south of Interstate 95 including present day Gainesville and Stonington On May 3rd 1951 Hurricane Flora made landfall along US 41 just north of downtown Palatka making damage estimations as high as $2 million with over 100 homes destroyed or damaged including many palatial villas such as that now known as Palm Beach Gardens In late August 1961 Don Shriver became Governor Of Florida after Bobby Kennedy's assassination; he ordered rebuilding efforts begun immediately across all levels within government with special attention given to infrastructure such as roads and water systems within hurricane zones palm beach gardens Historic home demolition resumed beginning on November 17th 1966 when Army Corps Of Engineers began preparatory work for Hurricane Daniel later that year; however no damage occurred until early February 1968 when Daniel struck northwest towards Palm Beach Gardens toppling trees and damaging numerous businesses before finally dissipating over Jupiter Bay

Located in the panhandle of Florida, Palatka is a small town that has seen its share of Changes. From being a stop on the Underground Railroad to becoming an important port during the late 1800s, Palatka has seen it all. In recent years, however, Palatka has experienced something quite unique-name change. The town's name was changed from "Palatka" to "Palta" in honor of Spanish explorer and adventurer Ferdinand Magellan. This move may seem like a trivial decision at first glance, but in practice it has had a significant impact on the town's history and culture. Magellan was one of history's most famous explorers and adventurers. He was responsible for proclaiming himself emperor of Spain in 1519 after traveling across much of South America and North America. After his journey, Magellan decided to set out on another journey- this time alone into Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). While exploring this new land, he met someone named Osman I who told him about an ancient city called Pergamum which he claimed lay hidden under the coastal sandosite known as Ateteviye (modern day Antalya). Magellan set out on his next voyage to find Pergamum but died before reaching it. His followers continued his exploration but never found any evidence that he actually discovered Pergamum- instead they thought he simply lost way while exploring the area around Ateteviye. In 1607 Portuguese sailors led by Pedro Fernandes explore what is now Turks And Caicos Islands (now Tortola) and sighted what they believed was a huge island off their coast called Isla de la Cruz (Island Of The Cross). They named this island Isla de las Cruz(Island Of The Cross), after finding numerous crosses located thereabouts. However, upon closer inspection it was determined that these were not real crosses but rather part of an elaborate hoax perpetrated by Portuguese Admiral João da Cunha during the height of Portugal's global dominance! Upon learning this information, Magellan traveled back home convinced that he had actually discovered genuine Isla de la Cruz which he titled Santa Cruz(Holy Cross). After hearing about Magellan's discovery from Da Cunha himself, King Manuel I decided to establish himself as ruler over all Spanish possessions in Asia Minor including Pergamum. He ordered Captain Jorge Colón to search for LaCruz again but Colón instead explored nearby Cape Trafalgar (present day Antalya) which marks where modern day Palatka stands today! After discovering both cape and island, Colón renamed LaCruz ("TheCross") after Saint Francisco Xavier who had Discoveried America centuries earlier! In 1609 LaCruz became part of Castille Province within newly created Mexico City Province! In 1768 Spanish painter Carlos Márquez drew inspiration for his painting Las Cuevas Marinas(Coves By The Sea), also known as Don Juan galleon or Galleon With Two Pintadas On Its Deck which depicts a galley filled with soldiers/passengers carrying goods upriver towards some unknown destination over rapids near present day Fort Myers Beach!!! Today we can see just one half pintada left standing!!!
