The Navy has been deployed in various places around the world for over two centuries. The Palatka, Florida Naval Shipyard is one of the oldest naval shipyards in the United States. It was founded in 1794 and completed its first ships in 1815. The shipyard was mothballed from 1941-1945 during World War II. It reopened in 1945 and produced warships such as USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and USS Lexington (CVN-64). In 2007, it produced the USNS Coral Sea (LHD-10) which became operational on 9 November 2007. The Palatka Naval Shipyard also manufactures submarines and amphibious assault vehicles. There are currently a total of 14 submarines at the Palatka Naval Shipyard including four built by Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works division, three built by Northrop Grumman Corporation, and one eachbuilder by Raytheon Company, Atlantic Marine Corporation, Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., and Northrop Grumman Corporation. Additionally, there are five amphibious assault vehicles at the Palatka Naval Shipyard including two built by Raytheon Company, one eachbuilt by Armor Holdings Inc., General Dynamics Land Systems Division LLC., MCR Defense LLC., and BAE Systems plc. The Navy also maintains a detachment of military police officers that provide law enforcement services to civilians living near military installations worldwide

The trophy is given to an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the Navy and United States during theirDeployment. The trophy celebrates Rear Admiral McCain's many years of distinguished service in the Naval Service, including his roles as commanding officer of CVN-63 and Commander, Naval Forces Europe/Africa (CNAF). The USS Enterprise also conducts maritime patrols throughout the world and merits special recognition for its participation in these operations. Rear Admiral McCain was born on October 15, 1929, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from US Naval Academy with honors in 1951 and served as commander of Destroyer Squadron 5 (DESRON-5), based at Pearl Harbor until 1957 when he became commanding officer of CVN-63. From 1964 until his retirement from active duty on December 1, 1998, Rear Admiral McCain commanded CNAF units worldwide includingCVNS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 64), USS Coral Sea (LHD 10),USS John F Kennedy (CVN 77) and USS America (LHD 21). This experience gave him unique insights into naval warfare that were valuable for his role as Presidential Ship Memorial Trophy recipient. During his tenure as a rear admiral in the U S Navy, Rear Admiral McCain was responsible for numerous impressive accomplishments both afloat and ashore including: One example is Commodore Gregory J Kappenheimer's "Achieving Maritime Security" report which was published by National Defense University Press in 2006; it provides comprehensive analysis of how navies can work together to achieve maritime security objectives while maintaining freedom of navigation across international waters. In addition to this document Commodore Kappenheimer also authored "America's Most Prolific CruiseMerchant Ships" article which appeared in ISSCC Magazine Volume XIII No 2 Winter 2007; it comprehensively reviews data on all Merchant Mariners operating within U S waters during calendar year 2006

Palatka, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. Palatka is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area and is adjacent to Jacksonville Beach. The town began as a small farming community and now has a variety of businesses including restaurants, motels, stores, schools and churches. The history of Palatka can be traced back to 1835 when Captain John Cushing founded what would become Palatka on the east side of Lake Okeechobee. After several years of growth, Cushing's Landing became an important commercial center for the region and saw many expansions over the years including a land grant from Spain in 1845 that gave rise to present-day Palm Bay. In 1875, J.C. Penney opened his store in what would become Penney's Mall which helped spark further development in the town while also providing social opportunities for its residents. Today, Palatka remains an active community with a strong sense of local identity that helps make it one of the most vibrant towns in South Florida. With nearly 2 square miles (3 km2) of parkland annexed by the town over time, there are plenty of activities for residents to enjoy whether they're enjoying hiking or fishing; playing golf or baseball; skiing or snowboarding; or just relaxing around their homes on beautiful days like today.

In 1917, the first Naval detachment was deployed to Petrograd, Russia as part of World War I. Since then, the number of Naval detachments deployments has increased significantly. The most recent deployments were to Afghanistan in 2016 and Iraq in 2018. There are currently seven Naval detachments deployed worldwide: three in Europe (Greece, Spain; Norway), two in Asia (Japan and South Korea), one in Africa (Tunisia), and one located in South America (Brasília). Some of the more common reasons are appreciation for service or courage under difficult circumstances; equipment or vehicles needed for expeditionary warfare; candy or other snacks for troops on deployment; money donated by local businesses; flowers or other plants sent as a thank-you for good behavior ashore during a deployment; or toys for children who have accompanied their sailors home from deployment. Gifting can also be done out of interest or since there is often no specific occasion that comes up when it would be appropriate to give such an item as a gift. The town was founded by James Worthy in 1851 as a summer resort on the Indian River. The name derived from the Palatka Key word "Palatan," meaning "headland." A post office called Palatka was established in 1853, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1903, the town became a city under the slogan "The Friendly City." In 1976, Palatka joined with St Petersburg to form the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area and changed its name to Tampa Bay Metropolitan Area
The Palatka-on-Hudson railroad was completed in 1887 and connected the town of Palatka with the city of Hudson. The line was abandoned in the 1920s.
