As the world's largest military force, the United States Armed Forces maintain a complex history. Gifts to the military have been present in Palm Bay since the early 1800s, and today there is an active gift giving tradition within the services. The United States Military Academy at West Point was founded in 1802 as a preparatory school for physicians and surgeons. In 1893, Congress passed an act providing for gifts to be given "to any officer or enlisted man of either house of Congress." The first soldier to receive this gift was Major General James Fenton from New York. A small but significative gift was presented to then-Secretary of War Edwin Stanton on November 8, 1896 by Representative Augustus W. Childs of Florida. This gift included $5,000 for new rifles and pistols for use at West Point's garrison protecting Tampa Bay from Seminole Indian attacks. In 1907, Congress passed an act granting medals and other honors to officers who had served in Vietnam during that country's war with Spain. This gave rise to what is now known as the Vietnam Defense Medal program. The medal has two levels: the Gold Medal (awarded to those who have meritorious service) and the Silver Medal (awarded only to those who are specifically mentioned in official Department of Defense records as having rendered distinguished service). Medals can also be awarded posthumously. As part of this program, soldiers were also granted accessions into all branches of Army Service Forces through selective enlistment into units available at that time--a process which continues today under different nameplates such as Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (AROTC), National Guard Bureau/Army National Guard Commanders' School (ANGSC), etc.). The U S Marine Corps received its first donation from Captain John Loring Coolidge on December 1st 1906 when he sent five captured Spanish Marines back alive with swords and knives after they had successfully pirated American vessels near Havana Harbor; these marines were christened "Loring's Raiders". A significant amount of Navy equipment was donated by Commodore George Dewey during World War I including several battleships; most notably USS Constitution (1914). Naval Air Station Pensacola received its first jet aircraft in 1947 when Republic Aircraft Corporation donated four Beechcraft Baron aircraft; these planes were used until 1951 when they were leased by Pan Am Airways Ltd.; Pan Am later donated these planes outright to NASA! Additionally, major donations include $2 million given by Hewlett-Packard CEO Arthur Andersen during World War II for research into naval aviation; $1 million given by Texaco oil tycoon Andrew Carnegie during World War I for ground transportation improvements along US railroads; $500 thousand given by Sam Walton Jr.'s Walmart Incorporated during both World Wars Crystal Bridges Museum & Research Center located in Arkadelphia Arkansas contains over 2 million items belonging to over 50 organizations representing more than 50 countries! The Palm Bay, Florida Army Garrison was established on November 1, 1810. The first troops were mustered in under the command of Major General James Moultrie. By 1861, the garrison had grown to 4,000 men and was responsible for guarding Fort Brooke on Indian River Island. The garrison was disbanded in 1865 after Confederate forces invaded Florida. It re-opened in 1868 as a military installation under the command of Colonel John Pemberton. In 1898, it became an infantry regiment and served until World War II when it was merged into the Florida Army National Guard.

It was founded in 1917 by Major William Fenton as part of an effort to make sure that citrus crops could be grown in the area between Biscayne Bay and Key Largo because those two areas were then known for their fruitfulness. The first Palm Bay post office was opened on October 1, 1917. The name change came about because at the time there were no other towns or villages named Palm Bay and so everyone started calling it "Palm Beach". In 1951, John Fenton purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land north of present day Sun City Center to create Sun City Village which became Palm Bay's main economic development during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1970, construction began on what would become Dolphin Marina which later became home to Marina del Rey Marina & Resort and now serves as an important center for local tourism

The Palm Bay area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people. In 1824, the United States purchased this land from Spain for $4,000. The U.S. built a fort on the site in 1827 and named it Fort Moultrie after General John Moultrie, who commanded American forces in Spanish Florida during the Seminole Wars. The fort served as a military post and trading center until1829 when it was abandoned because of Indian attacks. In 1840, Captain James Cook discovered what is now Palm Bay while sailing through the area on his third voyage around Australia. After landing at TampaBay, he sailed up the bay to where he thought he saw fresh waterfalls and founded a plantation there called Live Oak Plantation near what is now JupiterPine Drive. By 1850, however, most of Live Oak had been destroyed by fire and its plantations were sold off piecemeal to various investors until 1870 when they were bought by J.D.'s Brewery which developed them into what is today Palm Bay Brewing Company Ltd.. In 1907, Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt donated land to help build an Naval Air Station at Vero Beach which became NAS Pensacola later that year. In 1922, NAS Pensacola moved back to Sanford after being relocated from Jacksonville due to Hurricane Andrew's destruction of nearby homes and businesses in 1992–1993. NAS Pensacola contains two runways - 9/25L & 3/26R - making it one of only three airfields in Florida that can accommodate large civilian jets such as Boeing 747-400ERs etc... NAS Pensacola also houses one of two large hangar buildings (also used by NASA) on Ft Pierce Island adjacent to Naval Air Station Miramar which handles all sorts of planes including C-130 Hercules transports etc... NAS Pensacola closed its doors for good in 2009 but has been leased back for use as an Enhanced Airport Development Zone (EADZ)... TodayNASPalmBays remains closed but EADZ continues operations with some new development including palm oil mills etc...
