The name "Palm Bay" comes from two Key West natives--John A. Palm and his son George P. Palm--who founded a shipping company there in 1892 and developed an export trade with Cuba. He served as president until 1985 when he was succeeded by his son Tom Johnston Sr., who remained in that position until 2000 when he died suddenly at age 71; Tom Jr.'s widow, Pamela Johnsonee Johnson, took over as CEO until her retirement in 2006 then assumed day-to-day operations until her death in 2009 aged 86 years old According to the 2010 Census count, Palm Bay had a population of 1,453 people: 811 households (61% female), 498 families (30% male), and 191 single individuals living alone or sharing one bedroom with another person The median household income was $50,895: 20% lower than than Tampa proper but almost double than any other county within Florida As Floridians know well - beaches are key to economic growth - so too are tourism opportunities here! Palm Bay, Florida is a small town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,497 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee– Santa Ana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Palm Bay was first settled by Seminole Indians in 1835-36. A post office called "Palm Beach" was established in 1849, and remained in operation until 1959. In 1907, palm oil magnate George W. Bogle bought 5,000 acres (20 km²) of land near what is now Palm Bay for $25 million. He started to develop it into an oil refineries and shipping center known as Bogleville. The town was renamed Palm Bay after him in 1927. Bogleville's heyday ended with the stock market crash of 1929 and World War II; many of its businesses were sold off or closed down during those years. However, some remain active such as the University of Central Florida student union and Sarasota County government headquarters which are still used today In recent decades much development has occurred around Interstate 4 th Avenue which runs through town center; this has led to increased traffic congestion on I-4A nears the intersection with US 1 . On July 21st 2017 a terrorist attack happened at a nightclub called Pulse Las Vegas leaving 49 dead and over 60 injured
