In 1928 Antonio Perez moved his business to San Francisco where he opened another cafe called “ Puerto Rican Café” which was later renamed “El Tajino” on Polk Street in San Francisco’s Financial District popular for its food but also home to some of California’s earliest newspapers including The Examiner and The Chronicle at that time). Palm Bay is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Palm Bay" comes from the Palmetto palm family and refers to its natural harbour which was used for docking by Native American tribes. A post office was established in 1884, and the community began to take form as a small village when a railroad station (later an expressway) was built there in 1911. In 1942, Palm Bay became separate from Kissimmee and annexed by it. The economy of Palm Bay has been based largely on agriculture since its founding; however, some industry has developed over time including: manufacturing parts for automobiles and other consumer goods; plastics manufacture; tourism; and shipbuilding. The first known Indian sighting was on July 10, 1836 when a group of Seminole Indians led by Chief Toccoa landed at Palm Bay on an island in the bay. The first Europeans to arrive were Frenchmen and their American partners, the Lemaire brothers. Captain Jean-Baptiste Rousseau and his crew arrived on October 5, 1841. They named the island Lighthouse Point for Lieutenant James Rochefort who had been commandant of Fort Caroline (the present day Pensacola) at that time. In 1845, a United States military post was built at the mouth of Live Oak Creek as part of Commodore John D’Estaing’s efforts to secure Florida from Spanish control. In November 1846, Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States and ordered General Winfield Scott to open Florida to white settlement. After much debate, Scott decided to place Palm Bay under military rule until more information could be obtained about potential land owners and residents. In December 1846, he appointed Colonel James Hargrave as Governor of Florida Territory. On January 3, 1747 Hargrave issued a proclamation creating Palm Beach County which included most of what is now southern Broward County except for portions north of I-95 near Ft Walton Beach One important event that occurred during this time period was the signing on September 30th 1861 by Confederate General Robert Easley of Jacksonville receiving verbal confirmation from then-President Jefferson Davis that Confederate forces would not attack Union territory if it were entered by those forces into Florida Territory - seal off all ports along Lake Okeechobee including PalmBay so no supplies or reinforcements could reach Union forces operating in Mississippi River Valley under General Robert Easley
