Palm Beach Gardens, Florida is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,155 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Palm Beach County. The city was founded on April 14, 1887 by John Fenton and his wife Julia Prentice Wright. The original name was "Lake Worth". On December 11, 1888 the name was changed to "Palm Beach". The city's first mayor was J.P. Wertz. In 1916 Mayor Harry Houdini moved the city from its original location on South Bay Drive to what is now its present location on Boca Raton Drive due to a lack of space in Lake Worth. In 1933 Mayor Addison Whipple dedicated an addition to City Hall that became known as the "Whipple Annex". After World War II many large factories closed in Palm Beach County and many people left town for good including Mayor Whipple and his staff which made way for new mayors such as Jerald Ford and Nelson Aldridge who continue to be mayor today with George Shultz as their current term ends in 2020

It has grown and changed over time, but its origins remain relevant to today's USAF. The first USAF gift was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber. This aircraft had great potential as an strategic bomber and quickly became popular among members of the USAF. The early bombers were used in ground attack missions as well as bombing raids against Japan during World War II. In 1949, the USAF introduced its first jet fighter squadron,the Ninth Air Force (9 AF). The jet fighter program rapidly gained momentum and by 1953 it had become one of the most advanced aviation programs in the world. By this point, many members of Congress had voiced their concerns about America's lack of air power and called for a reconsideration of our commitment to war with Japan. In response to these calls for action, President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered Congress to create the USAF in July 1947. At that time, there were only nine active USAAF squadrons and only 7% of America's military might was dedicated to aerial warfare! Over time, however, both flying wings have evolved into what we know today: two standing 9 AF squadrons - each numbered 21EF - plus three transient squadrons (Trident), all equipped with Lockheed Martin F-117A Nighthawks; four Air National Guard Squadrons (Air National Guard at 3AF duty stations); six Air Force Reserve Squadrons (Air Force Reserve at home station duty status) ;and two Marine Corps Reconnaissance Squadron-21st MEF(R) .

In 1902, Mayor Abramoff donated land to form the present-day city block which housed many of Fort Myers' early businesses and homes. From 1912 to 1916, Governor John D’Urso served as Mayor of Palm Beach Gardens before being elected U.S. Senator from Florida in 1916.
