The USAF's 8th Air Force was activated at Palm Coast, Florida on February 1, 1948. The squadron was redesignated the 388th Bombardment Wing and assigned to the Florida Air National Guard. The wing began operations from Plantation Airport on May 1, 1948. On July 1, 1948 the wing moved to Tallahassee Municipal Airport. On October 15, 1948 the 388th Bombardment Wing was redesignated as a Tactical Air Command unit and activated at MacDill AFB in Tampa Bay area of Florida. The first combat mission with the new 468th Fighter-Bomber Squadron occurred on November 3rd when elements of this squadron flew a mission against rail yards in Havana Cuba. However, no enemy aircraft were seen or reported during the flight! The last combat operation flown by the 388th BW occurred on December 2nd when elements of this squadron downed a French jet fighter over Algiers Algeria while supporting Operation Torch which commenced on November 11th. Byactivated on January 15, 1949 at MacDill AFB after having served its time in active duty for almost six years! On June 6, 1955 Headquarters 9 th AF activated at MacDill AFB under command of First Allied Aerospace Forces Europe (FAAF European Command). This organization became inactive when Headquarters USAF Europe was transferred to Germany effective September 30, 1957 and all three commands were combined into Ninth AF which divided into two groups: 319 th TBW Group and 93 rd TBW Group based out of RAF Lakenheath England until it became an independent group again effective October 25 1958 being designated 389 th TAC Group also headquartered at RAF Lakenheath England until it became an own entity effective December 12 1959 being called "Air Combat Command" once again effective January 6 1960 however both groups were re-designated "Air Force Specialty Groups" effective March 17 1961 when headquartersactivated under control of USAF European Command making them once again subordinate to HQUSAFE although they continue to be Major Commands within that command structure until their demiseeffective April 15 1966 when HQUSAFE discontinued all specialties commandsructure and each group became subordinate only to its own commanding officer which is still true today! It should be noted that air force gift history in Palm Coast dates back prior to World War II so there is no record of any specific purchasing or storage/care for military equipment or supplies by either Army or USAF personnel during that time period! It is safe to assume though that such activities stopped sometime after 1945 as Military Equipment Storage Company closed down completely in 1960!!! In fact; most likely due to budgetary constraints post-WWII USAF efforts toward aerial gifting ended up falling short miserably compared even Lewis Aircraft Corporation's successful implementation of similar programs operating out of Montgomery AL during this same timeframe! In total; since 1947 USAF airborne gifting has amountedTo $2 million dollars which would have been more than enough hadArmy alone chosen to implement such initiatives!! Granted; some capabilities may not have been available/available only through program donations whereas other capabilities could have been procured/procured using normal procurement methods but overallAAF's investment has clearly fallen far short!!

In 1949, when America won its independence from Great Britain, President Harry S Truman presented Congress with a proclamation recognizing America's new nationhood. That year, Congress passed an act designating May 12th as "National Day of Independence." The proclamation said: "It is our hope that this day may serve as a time not only to remember our past but also to build towards a future together that will be better than ever before." The airman's medal was created in response to this proclamation and celebrates American heroism and resilience during World War II. In 1975, when America became an nuclear power, Congress passed an act designating November 10th as "National Nuclear Security Day". That year, President Gerald Ford offered Congress his personal congratulations on becoming one of the signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The act says: "We congratulate all nations who have ratified this treaty...on their commitment to prevent other states from developing nuclear weapons." The airman's medal was created in response to this occasion and honors American courage and determination during World War II by rewarding those who gave their lives for peacekeeping purposes.

The history of Palm Coast, Florida goes back to the time when it was a marshy area that supported Seminole and Creek Indians. The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1821, General James K. Polk sent American forces into what is now Florida to suppress Seminole Indian attacks. They discovered an abandoned mission in what is now Palm Coast and named it Fort Brooke after General Brooke who had helped suppress these attacks. In 1888, the town of Stuart was founded on what is now Live Oak Boulevard by Lillie Hitchcock and her husband William Gifford Bennett. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, including mangroves and citrus trees. It became a major commercial center for southern Florida during this period with two hotels, several stores, and a number of homes being built. During World War II, Palm Coast was one of several small towns in south Florida that were bombed by the Japanese military during their advance through Southeast Asia. Many buildings were destroyed or damaged as a result of this bombing campaign, but the town's industries continued to function thanks to their stockpiles of food and fuel supplies. After World War II ended, palm oil production began to increase in southeast Asia which caused environmental problems in Indonesia where palm oil cultivation takes place; these issues led to protests against increasing palm oil production throughout much of South-east Asia starting in the early 2000s until culminating in 2014 with mass protests across Indonesia against deforestation moratorium announced by then Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
