Palm Coast, Florida is a town located in Brevard County, Florida on the panhandle of the United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. Palm Coast is one of two towns in Brevard County that are both within 1 mile (1 km) of each other. The other town is Fort Myers. The first settlers to Palm Coast were Frenchmen who founded a trading post and small village on what is now called State Road 441A in 1827. The post was abandoned by 1829 and no longer exists today. In 1835, an Englishman named John Beaumont established a small plantation near present-day Fort Myers with some local Indian help. Beaumont's plantation failed and he sold his land to Spanish interests in 1840. In 1845, Colonel James Wilkinson purchased 640 acres (250 ha) of land east of Palm Coast from José Antonio Carrillo for $2,000 cash alone (). Wilkinson renamed the land "Wilkinson Plantation" after himself and his father-in-law Sir George Williams (the founder of Williamsburg). One year later, Wilkinson married Maria la Gorda de Torres y Valdés who arrived from Cuba with him in search of new land to settle after her husband's death in Mexico City during the Mexican–American War (). She left behind three children: José Antonio Carrillo Wilkinson II (1846–1938), Manuela Carrillo Wilkinson (1849–1925), and Carmen Rivera de los Santos Calderón y Pacheco y Ramos (1850–1920). When World War I began on April 6th 1914 (), Manuela married Commander First Class John Dolan Ulysses S Grant () USNR () son of General Ulysses S Grant (). They had one child: Julia Dolan Grant Ulysses Sankofsky () born October 20th 1916(). After World War I ended on November 11th 1918(), Julia moved to New York City where she became an opera singer before dying age 49 from ovarian cancer on December 5th 1990 (). Her ashes are interred at Arlington National Cemetery .

In 1901, the name Miami changed to Miami Beach after a hurricane destroyed several homes on Flagler Street in downtown Miami. The town of West Palm Beach merged with Miami Beach on December 10, 1953.
