The battle resulted in a decisive US victory and destroyed Yamato . -On September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks took place at two locations near Pompano Beach - One at the Value Place Shopping Center (later demolished) and another at an unknown location close to MacArthur Park . These Attacks killed 2 ,996 people and injured over 5,000 others . Pompano Beach is also home to several amusement parks including Busch Gardens Tampa which opened in 1959, Six Flags Over Texas which opened in 1976, Kings Dominion amusement park whichopened in 1984, Universal Studios Florida which opened in 1998 - all while being adjacent to each other on Broward Boulevard.
