The Palmetto Air Force Base was established in 1947 and is the home of the Florida Air National Guard’s 9th Fighter Wing. The wing has aCrash Memorial Museum, located on base, which is open to the public from 9am-4pm every day of the year. The museum also has an exhibit on military aircraft from World War II through today. There are also several airmen’s clubs and a library onbase that are open to the public. In addition, there are numerous other functions and events held at Palmetto AFB each year such as flyovers by Army fighter planes or military shows.

Palmetto is a small town located in Sarasota County, Florida. It is home to about 3,000 residents and has a population of about 20 in the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1892 by settlers from Georgia. It became a municipality in 1907 and adopted its current name in 1916. Palmetto was hit hard by the flooding that struck Lake Okeechobee during Hurricane Andrew in 1992-1993. Many homes were destroyed and many businesses were closed. The damage totaled over $100 million dollars. The town government restored some of the destroyed homes and businesses while also developing a program to help low-income residents get back on their feet. This project has since been renamed " PALMETTO FOR ALL" and it focuses on helping people regardless of race, color, or economic background.
When the United States Air Force was created in 1947, it had no air forces of its own. The USAF was founded on the idea that airpower would be the decisive force for victory in any war and that the Air Force must be capable of conducting long-range bombing raids. This goal was accomplished through a series of national security decrees and Acts of Congress that established various authorities and systems within the USAF. The first set of regulations governing USAF operations came from General Curtis LeMay's "Statement on Air Power" which became effective on February 14, 1948. The USAAF has also been responsible for numerous technological advances, including jet travel, night flying, electronic warfare, space exploration and many more. In recent decades, however, USAF spending priorities have shifted away from weapons development to sustaining air forces around the world while performing humanitarian missions such as disaster relief and peacekeeping. Today's USAF is a complex organization with an estimated membership of over 350 active duty fighter wings and 7000 reserve squadrons spread across all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.. These units are organized into six main commands: Air Forces Europe (AFE), Air Forces Asia (AFE), Pacific Command (PACC), Strategic Airlift Command (SAC), Intelligence Community Support Command (ICSC) - all headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton OH -Air Combat Command (ACC) at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK -and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) at McChord AFB near Tacoma WA. Each command oversees a numbered range of subordinate commands which provide support for homeland defense activities; nuclear deterrence planning; bomber production; intelligence gathering; strikes against hostile ground targets; global strike operations; training/advice to allied nations;repatriation assistance programs/operations ;support to civil authorities ;and contingency operations such as search & rescue . Palmetto, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Palmetto is located on the southern coast of Jupiter Island and its ZIP Code is 33609. It was named after General James Moore Clinch who fought in the Seminole War and helped to develop Jacksonville into a major port city during that time period. The first European settler in what would become Palmetto was Captain John Smith who sailed from Jamestown on October 14, 1607 for Floridas purpose only and did not land on Jupiter Island until December 7th when he sighted Cape Canaveral (now Elliott Beach) from his ship "Northampton". He named it Islet Key after one of his crewmen, Samuel Eaton. In 1819 Palmetto had 5 white households and 12 African American households with an total population of 20 people when Colonel Isaac Watts visited the island to offer land for slave sale to white settlers. After meeting Watts and hearing about his plan to build a school on Islet Key which would free blacks from their indentured servitude there began a wave ofattery donations by citizens across South Florida which ultimately led to passage of The National Constitution Act by Congress on January 6th, 1787 giving black Americans full voting rights within national borders for the first time in history! Today there are over 1,000 descendants of early colonial settlers living in Palmetto including many well-known doctors and lawyers like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harry Truman & Jimmy Carter; as well as artists such as Roy Lichtenstein (& countless others), Skip Harrison (RIP), Don DeLillo (& countless others). In addition to its rich cultural heritage PALMETTO also boasts some beautiful landscapes – home to stunning waterways such as Biscayne Bay & Everglades National Park – raising cattle & pigs on 90%+ acres of pristinely managed forestlands etc..
In 1795, Palmetto was first settled by English men who were looking for a place to land after the British lost their colony in North America. The men built a small fort on the present-day site of Palm Beach and named it Fort Tryon. They also laid out a trading post and town that later became known as Palm Beach. The first settler in what is now Palm Beach County was John Windsor, who arrived in 1797. He founded what is now West Palm Beach. Another early resident was James Cook, who visited the area in 1801. Palmetto's growth began during the Seminole Wars of 1835-1846, when US soldiers fought against Seminoles who had set up shop near Yacht Club Bay on Jupiter Island. In 1839, Captain John Sutter discovered palmetto oil reserves off South Florida and decided to establish an oil company here. The first wells were drilled in 1840 but production stopped because of low prices and competition from other oil fields across the country. During Reconstruction following the Civil War, Governor George Whitefield designated part of Broward County (then organized into eight counties) asPalm Beach County on April 12, 1875; this included much of what is todayBroward and Palm Beach Counties except for its eastern border with Miami-Dade County which formed part of Marlinsburg Township (later Dania). The county seat moved from Fort Tryon to Research Park in 1889; then to Boynton Beach in 1902; and finally to Sunrise Boulevard in 1945 when it became part of Miami-Dade County
