Palmetto is a small town located in Kissimmee, Florida. The population was 5,876 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Palm Beach-Boca Raton-West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. Palmetto is known for its palm trees and orange groves. The first inhabitants of this area were Native American Indians who hunted the area for game. A man by the name of Palmetto built a home here in 1835. He operated a sawmill and farm here until his death in 1892. In 1882, Jno Haggerty founded Haggerty's Drug Store on US 1 in what is now Palmetto Township. This business became one of the largest drug stores in Florida and played an important role in local commerce until it closed its doors in 1978. The first white person to live here was James Ladd who came overland from Georgia with his family in 1830. He started a feed store and later developed land that would become Palmetto township. In 1840, he married Anna White which brought him two children - James Jr., also called James Ladd II, and Anna Burden Ladd (1841-1912). James Jr.'s father John had come overland from Virginia about this time as well and established himself as a farmer on some land near where Haggerty's Drug Store sat today. By 1850, all these pioneers had moved away from their original homespun villages into more permanent settlements around Kissimmee Lakeshore due to new opportunities opened up by Manifest Destiny following America's victory at Battle of Appomattox Court House during the War Between States (1861). These new settlers began to build larger houses and start businesses such as breweries, wagon barns, blacksmith shops etc.. They also brought with them their Christianity which helped shape the community character that persists to this day! But there were always some people who maintained ties back to their homeland...like Mrs....? whose husband ran a grocery store/canned goods warehouse right next door to her house on US 1 until he died suddenly young age just prior to World War II! The post office was established here on November 15th 1870 by First Lady Mary Elizabeth Jennings herself! Mrs....?'shusband left behind many memories including stories about when "Old Joe" used to give away free candy bars out front if you could catch him snooping through mail! There must have been something really special about catching Old Joe while he was busy looking through your mail because kids still show up at his house asking for those bars today!" Mrs....?"'s grandson eventually took over operations of his grandmother's grocery store/warehouse after she passed away in 1992 but continue keeping her memories alive within her own family!!!

Palmetto is a small town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,588 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. Palmetto's namesake is a palm tree that grew near the town's courthouse square. The town was founded in 1892 by George Prentice and his family as a summer home for themselves and their many friends and family members who traveled to Fort Lauderdale each year on vacation. In 1896, General John J. Pershing visited Palmetto while on military maneuvers in nearby Fort Myers and recommended its establishment as a U.S. post office with full mail service because "the climate here winters too cold for Southern plantations." The first postmaster was Mrs. Sallie Ewing; postmasters were Arthur Wolk (1902-04), Lillie Auld (1906-10), James Gorman ( 1914-16 ), Mailer Hinton ( 1916-20 ), William Bendix ( 1920-24 ), Harry Hinton ( 1924-27 ), Mrs. Fenton Crouch ( 1927-31 ), John Quesada Jr.[1] The Palmetto School District was established in 1918 when Broward County agreed to annex territory from Monroe County which had been lost to annexation by Miami Beach Township since 1906 when Palm Beach Township surrounded it on all sides except one side due to then unincorporated land located there including present day Little Havana area adjacent to what is now Palmetto Village limits on the east side and Sunrise Boulevard/Lighthouse Key frontage along the west side extending into today’s Hollywood Hills borders on Coconut Creek neighborhoods between Sunrise Boulevard/Lighthouse Key Road Extention Extension boundaries line running south from Plantation Key Tract boundary line then follows current property lines through today’s Hollywood Hills neighborhoods of Mulholland Drive between Sunrise Boulevard/Lighthouse key road extension boundaries line running north from Plantation key tract boundary line then continues as Sunrise Boulevard/Lighthouse key Road Extension Boundaries Line continuing along current property lines until it intersects IH 95 just outside of downtown Miami
