Military gift history in Palmetto, Florida began with the arrival of General Andrew Jackson's army when it invaded Florida in 1813. The United StatesArmy had been struggling to find a way to fund its war effort, so Jackson offered his services as commander-in-chief. He ordered General James K. Polk to build a military road from Tampa to Pensacola, and then he ordered General Henry Clay to build a fort at Key West. The army was not well equipped for the long journey across country, so Polk and Clay developed a plan to purchase equipment from Europe. They hired an expedition led by Captain John Sibley to sail up the St. Johns River and buy supplies from Native Americans living on the banks. After arriving in Tampa Bay, Sibley found that there were no boats available for him to bring his cargo back home. So he took his goods inland and stored them at Fort Brooke until he could find another port area for them. In 1828, MajorGeneral James Ewing arrived in Florida with 1,200 troops and set up camp at Fort Brooke on Lake Okeechobee. He planned on doing more than just garrisoning the fort; he wanted to create a trading post that would help connect southern Florida with Georgia and other parts of the US East Coast. In order to do this, Ewing hired local farmers and fishermen who built shotguns and rifles into their homes as part of their military service while they grew crops or hunted game near Fort Brooke. This type of relationship between civilians and soldiers is often referred to as "military culture." After three years of construction work, Ewing's post finally opened its doors on November 6, 1830 - almost two years after he first arrived! The new fort served as an important link between Tampa Bay andGeorgia during the early days of American expansionism into Latin America. It also helped spark development along what is now US Route 41 - one of SouthFlorida's most important highway corridors today!

Palmetto is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,502 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is adjacent to downtown Miami. Palmetto was founded on March 25, 1867 by Rafael Rivera and his wife Maria del Carmen Ortiz as a citrus plantation. A post office called Palmetto has been in operation since 1881. The original land for Palmetto was acquired from Don Manuel de la Torre y Parra by Captain John Hays during the Seminole Wars for $5,000USD. The first crop of oranges grown on the property was harvested in 1874. In 1888, Captain Hays sold the plantation to His Excellency General James Longstreet for $160,000USD which made it one of the most valuable properties in Miami-Dade County. In 1907 Colonel Edward Wylie bought Palmetto from General Longstreet and established it as a military base with barracks, stores, four miles of road fronting both Boynton Beach and Boca Raton., three schools and twenty-six trees were planted along Utopia Parkway which became known as "Wylie Park". In 1923 Colonel Wylie sold Palmetto to Harry Laughlin who renamed it "Laughlin Plantation" after himself. During World War II Japanese forces mined underground under Laughlin's estate causing extensive damage but no loss to property; this event is still sometimes considered an ironic footnote to history because much later when Laughlin developed Miramar Airport he used some of his own land (now part of Bayfront Park) as additional runway usage rights! In 1948 Major General Ralph Bunche purchased Palmetton from Harry Laughlin giving him title to all land within city limits including what is now Bayfront Park where he built his mansion known today as "Bunche House". After years of negotiations and purchase By 1988 (the last time title changed hands), Mayor Edwin Ramos took ownership of all assets within city limits creating Miami's first municipally owned airport! At that point over 100 years had passed since Palmetti’s establishment! As fate would have it not long thereafter another county seat (Miami Lakes) would be established just south of town near Lake Worth while yet another company would buy up most if not all of Palmetti’s old lands setting off yet another era characterized by increasing commercialismdensity redlining housing developments throughout central/ southwestern FL however despite these setbacks over 2 dozen homes have been constructed on much remaining forested acreage making PALMETTO synonymous with Forest Hills Mansion & Country Club today!
The Palmetto Plantation was a plantation in the town of Palmetto on Florida's east coast. It was founded in 1794 by Jameson and wife Eliza Hamilton. The Hamiltons were quite wealthy, and their plantation grew rapidly after they bought it from a slaveowner. In 1821, the Hamiltons sold their interest in the plantation to John Hammond. The Hammonds kept it until it was acquired by General Lewis Cass in 1838.
