The Palmetto National Guard is a civilian arm of the United States Coast Guards, which was organized on November 3, 1916. It became an all-volunteer unit on September 26, 1942. The Palmetto Guard's mission is to provide law and order on the Florida Keys while guarding against natural disasters. The guard also provides training for state troopers. The first military members of the Palmetto National Guard were enlisted troops from New York City who served in World War I. They were replaced by soldiers from Georgia who fought in World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called for a peacetime national guard when he was inaugurated in 1933. He wanted civilians to be able to protect themselves in case of war with Japan or Germany. Congress passed the National Defense Act of 1940 which created the Coast Guardsmen as part of the military forces of U.S., giving them jurisdiction over all water areas east of Mexico City and south of Santiago, Chile that did not fall under Spanish jurisdiction during that time period Since its inception, the Palmetto National Guard has mobilized for many different events throughout its history including: World War II; Desert Storm; Hurricane Katrina; and Operation Neptune’s Spear – moving supplies and personnel to hurricane-ravaged areas after hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico

The Palmetto National Guard was organized on December 15, 1907. The original organization included a detachment of the Florida Militia and Infantry. On May 12, 1908, the territorial authorities of Florida activated the battalion and assigned it to Camp Pickens in Tallahassee. On October 10, 1912, the battalion was redesignated as Company A, 1st Battalion, Palmetto Regiment. The regiment became part of Field Artillery Corps on November 25th 1916. It was reorganized as Battery C-1 (Palmetto) on February 6th 1922. The regiment changed its name again to Company B (Palmetto) on July 5th 1938 and reverted back to its original title on November 3rd 1941 when it became a ground artillery battery within Second Brigade Combat Team 1st Infantry Division stationed at Fort Benning Georgia
Palmetto, Florida is located in the state of Florida and it is part of the Pensacola metropolitan area. The population of Palmetto as of 2010 was 20,914. Palmetto was first settled in 1853 by men from Georgia. The name "Palmetto" derived from the Samoan word "palu," meaning to plant or to found a town. In 1862, a post office was established at Palmetto and in 1876, a school district was created. By 1920, there were over 100 businesses in Palmetto and it had a population of 10,000 people. During World War II, many Palmettonians served in the military and many homes were used as troop barracks. Today, Palmetto is an agricultural community with around 50 farms that produce crops such as cotton, corn, hayseed wheat, soybeans and potatoes. It also has a small manufacturing sector which includes production of several types of pottery including claytery and terra cotta ware.
The National Guard has a long and proud history of providing support to the United States. From its early days as an unarmed militia to today, the Guard has played an important role in our society. In 1775, when the Continental Congress recommended that the states create militias to help protect their citizens, New York City’s Committee of Safety recommended that the city arm its own guard force. The first national guard regiment was raised in Manhattan on July 26, 1775 by Captain John Winthrop and Colonel Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In response to British military aggression in America during the Revolutionary War, Massachusetts ordered its own militia on October 15, 1775. On November 14th, George Washington called for all state militias to join him in order to protect Americans from British troops encamped at Saratoga Springs. By December 1st all American militias had joined forces with Washington’s army under the command of General Howe. Throughout much of the Revolution, both New York City and Massachusetts had large numbers of Guardsmen assigned to them as part of their militaries. However, because no Constitution or laws were passed creating a national guard system within each state until after independence was won, there is little record available about how these units functioned or what gifts they received from their respective legislatures. There are some references however which give us some insight into how this particular branch of government operated during key moments throughout our history: 1) The First Regiment (New York) Armory Company was founded on February 20th., 1776 by Captain James Kenton who also served as Mayor of New York during King George III's visit in 1774-5 2) The Second Regiment (Boston) Armory Company was founded on May 25th., 1777 by Captain William Dawes 3) On October 13th., 1800 Governor Thomas Jefferson created a new Militia Division “in pursuance thereof [the] Commanding Officer having caused it be erected at Boston aforesaid under his direction” 4) A unit known as “The Connecticut Garrison” (later redesignated “The Connecticut Volunteers Infantry”), raised at Hartford on January 10th., 1812 consisted primarily of men from that State Ranger Forces program conducted by Governor De Witt Clinton

Palmetto is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. It was established in 1892 by settlers from Georgia and has been the county seat of Broward County since 1907. In 1907, Santa Fe Railroad decided to merge with Florida Central Railway, creating a new railroad company – FloridaCentral Railway – that would serve as Broward's primary transportation provider. As a result of this merger, Palmetto became the county seat of Broward County; it had previously been served by Hollywood (then known as Pompano Beach). In 1916 developer Jules Fenton purchased land adjacent to what is now downtown Palmetto for $1 million; he plans to create what will become one of South America's largest shopping malls - Fenton Plaza - based on his concept of self-contained neighborhoods surrounding an open public square. In 1932 palmettonationist Roy Cohn donated land near Intracoastal Waterway for use as part of plans for world's largest air show; today it remains home to Suncoast University Airport. At its peak in 1958,Palm Beach Electric Cooperative had 10 miles (16 km) of telephone line routed through Palmetto; most current service providers are satellite services only today due greatly increased competition from cellular phone providers Palm Springs Municipal Airport serving both Palm Beach and Boynton Beaches
The Palmetto region in central Florida was first settled by the Seminole Indians in the late 18th century. The area became a part of the United States after the Mexican-American War, and was named for Major General James O'Kane, who had commanded American forces in that conflict. In 1881, Gold Rush fever struck this region, and many people came to work on new gold mines in what is now Nevada and Arizona. The area's natural resources brought more settlers here during the next several decades, and by 1915 there were over 100 businesses operating in the Palmetto region. The influx of people also led to increased development along its transportation routes. This resulted in an increase in traffic congestion and a number of accidents, which made life difficult for residents. By 1920, however,Palmetto had started to experience some positive changes thanks to investments from local businesses and entrepreneurs. These included construction of a railroad system that allowed goods to be transported easily from one corner of Florida to another; rapid growth in industry; and increasing numbers of people living here as well as growing tourism attractions.
