The Airforce gift history in Parkland, Florida began with General James “Jimmy” Mattis becoming the first U.S. military officer to be appointed commander of Air Force Base Ocala in 1947. The base was then renamed Tinker Air Force Base, in honor of General Tillerson’s predecessor as Defense Secretary, James Mattis. Following his retirement from the military in 2011, it was announced that he would become the new CEO of ExxonMobil. In early 2018, following a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida which left 17 dead and dozens injured, President Donald Trump ordered the installation of a prototype air defense system on Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) – which is also home to South Florida’s two largest airports – as part of an overall strategic plan for increased airport security across America. Since its inception over 50 years ago, the Air Force has played an important role in Broward County by providing basic services such as education and infrastructure development; however, this anniversary year marks an important milestone for both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Parkland-Westside Community College when they became constituent parts of Aerospace Command Headquarters (AFCH). Aerospace Command Headquarters is responsible for command and control functions for all USAF global forces vital to our Nation’s security - including Operation Inherent Resolve and other key military deployments worldwide. With this expansion came opportunities for closer relationships between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Joint Services Operations Center (JSOC) commanders stationed at AFCH and Parkland-Westside Community College Joint Services Operations Center commander Captured Forces Korea Commander 1st Lt Jesse Lunsford III who oversees operations at KSUW Shooting Range Complex. This partnership provides students with opportunities to learn from higher ranking officials about how their counterparts operate within the Department of Defense while sharing resources that can benefit both facilities.

The Parkland, Florida School District gift history can be traced back to 1959. The district’s first gift was a football scholarship to then-junior quarterback Joe Namath. In 1963, the school district donated $5,000 to help purchase new school buses. In 1984, the district gifted a city block of land in Coral Springs for use as an all-girl girls middle school. In 1996, the Parkland School District gifted a library building and staff training program to Broward County Public Schools in Broward County, Florida. in 1998 the Parkland School District donated $500,000 towards construction of a new science wing atBroward County High School. In 2002, the Parkland School District gifted a high school building and staff training program to Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Miami-Dade County, Florida In 2006, local parents founded "Stonington Strong" which provides toys and money for children with cancer through donations collected from local businesses throughout town during their holiday season. On December 12th of that year the Parkland School District sent out thank you cards and funds totaling $3200 to Stonington Strong after they made contributions during their October 25th event
Parkland, Florida is a small town in Broward County, Florida. It lies on the border of Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. The population was 27,239 as of the 2010 census. Parkland is located in the county seat of Coral Gables. The name Parkland derives from two sources: First, it may be derived from "park" – meaning a place for shooting arrows or other sports; second, landowner Major George Washington Wilson acquired a parcel of land at what is now Park Lane (now International Drive) in 1887. The original town site was near 155th Street and Third Avenue in downtown Coral Gables. A post office called Parkland was established in 1903, and remained open until 1957. In 1925, developer Harry Laughlin purchased 1/4 mile (1 km) of forested acres north of present-day University Boulevard to create an area that would become known as "Lauderdale." In 1962, he developed another comparable development - "Westchester". Today's Lauderdale neighborhood forms much of the eastern edge of today's Parkland community with its own ZIP code (33148). Prior to 1910 there were no dwellings or businesses within modern-day Parkland boundaries; only open woods between 150th and 175th Streets east and west of Interstate 95. On November 14, 1938 Hurricane Flora caused widespread damage across Broward County including parts of Fort Lauderdale and Homestead Heights; $9 million worth total damage was reported statewide within three days after landfall along with losses totaling $2 million dollars ($30 million at current prices). At least one business - Mrs Merkel's Pharmacy on Third Avenue - lost all its contents when it sustained direct hits from Flora which destroyed both business fronts plus store shelves inside while also damaging neighbouring buildings by flying glass Shards off upper windowspane onto storefronts below causing extensive damage inside as well as outside where shards penetrated wood frames still extant today! This event marked not only a point in time when hurricane devastation had reached unprecedented levels but also demonstrated just how quickly such catastrophic events could occur without Warning or Damage Coordination being put into effect thereby resulting in greater costs ensuing later on…. [sic] subsequently making this devastating storm even more costly for everyone involved….. [sic] Widespread power outages resulted throughout Broward County due to downed lines left behind by Flora…. [sic] nearly every house had either missing roofs or broken eavesdropping wires touching down anywhere else…. Untold thousands were displaced during the aftermath with homeless organizations taking up residence primarily around Government Center Square which served as their temporary home until available housing could be found elsewhere….. It should be noted that these are not statistics exclusive to any particular locality however given the scale & severity associated with Hurricane Flora it can be assumed that virtually every inhabited address within Broward County experienced some formof trauma following landfall

The USAF has a rich history of giving back to the community. In 2015, the USAF announced its annual Giving Pledge, which calls on members of the military and civilian communities to give at least 50% of their income to charity. The goal is to encourage more people to donate and make a difference in the lives of others. In 2017, the USAF resumed its tradition of giving back by participating in National Hunger Prevention Month. During this month, the USAF distributed food parcels to nearly 1,100 military installations across America in an effort to reduce hunger among service members and civilians.
In Broward County, Florida, there are now over 20 Parkland schools that serve students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade. The school district was founded on February 14th, 1959 by Dr. James E. Lockhart and Mr. Harry A. Dawson with the help of a grant from the National Education Association (NEA). Parkland originally served students in two schools – Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Coral Springs High School – but after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th, 2012, all of Broward County’s high schools were closed for rigorous safety reasons due to the potential for another attack like that which took place at Parkland years prior. Today, Parkland is one of Miami-Dade County’s most vibrant communities with a history stretching back more than 60 years. In 1957, when it opened its doors to students just days after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School let out for Christmas break, Parkland was an isolated community located about 10 miles west of downtown Miami Beach on State Road 761 south of Fort Lauderdale airport. It had only a few dozen homes and no telephone service or public transportation available outside of town itself; yet within weeks of its opening the school had seen enrollment increase from its initial handful of pupils to nearly 200 children from across surrounding towns and villages who would come each morning to take classes in small buildings set back among tall palm trees near the beach where they could watch boats sail by or play catch in front of their homes kitchens tables windows
On May 14, 2019, a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Seventeen people were killed and seventeen more were injured. The shooting has been classified as a mass shooting.
