The Coast Guard has been providing service to Parkland, Florida for over 100 years. The first Coast Guard station in the area was established in 1887. In 1963, the Parkland Station became a Regional Headquarters and currently serves as the primary headquarters for the Coast Guard District 6. The Coast Guard provides security and coastal rescue services throughout Broward County, Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County.

The Parkland Coast Guard Museum was founded in 1984 and is the only museum of its kind on the east coast of Florida. The museum contains artifacts from the Coast Guard’s history in Parkland, from when the Coast Guard was first established in 1897 to present day.
Parkland, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. It is located on the Everglades River and has a population of around 9,500 individuals. Parkland was founded in 1898 by the heirs of Captain James K. Polk and was later named for him. The area now known as Parkland was originally part of Indian Mound Plantation and was first settled by European-American settlers in the early 1800s. The community first began to grow when it became part of Lake Worth Township in 1892. In 1903, Parkland incorporated as a village and then as a town in 1925. As of the 2000 census, there were 9,500 people living in Parklandtownship[1]. The history of Parkland can be traced back to 1898 when Captain James K. Polk inherited an estate from his father that included land that now includes much of what is today known as Parkland County. At the time, India Mound Plantation was one of several large estates owned by Captain Polk's father-in-law, Colonel John D'Iberville (1765–1846). After inheriting the property, Captain Polk decided to rename it "Parkland" after his home state of Georgia (then called Alabama). The name stuck and ever since then Parklands residents have been proud to call themselves "Parksiders." As soon as Parksville began to grow they needed water so they constructed a dam which still stands today along with many other municipal improvements funded through private donations or taxes levied on properties within their boundaries such as those within Indian Mound Plantation Estate.[2] This unprecedented public works project not only improved local infrastructure but also generated much jobs throughout its construction phase[3]. One hundred fifty men worked onsite during peak construction season between 1899 and 1902; however due to limited resources this number dwindled over time with only eighteen men working onsite during World War II[4]. Today visitors can explore many architecture elements dating back to pre-1925 downtown PARKLAND including erected flour mills (1899), Masonic Hall (1902), Baptist Church (1914), post office Annexe Building(1920), Fire Department Station 3(1968) – all designed by noted architect George Rennie Hunt[5], among others . Many parks were also built at this time including Deerpark Estate & Fishing Lakes National Recreation Area just east of Indian Mound Plantation,[6] Hillsborough Bay Shoreline Golf Course & Marina east of IHOP restaurant complex,[7], Whetstone Point State Wildlife Preserve northwest corner Of Viera Boulevard & US 1 south side
The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for over 170 years. The first organized coast guard unit was established in 1837, and the Coast Guard Service traces its roots to the Revenue Cutter Service. In 1916, the Coast Guard absorbed the predecessor service, the United States Life-Saving Service. The Coast Guard has a variety of operational roles including search and rescue, law enforcement, maritime security, coastal defense and environmental protection. The Coast Guard is also responsible for providing humanitarian assistance in times of natural disaster or human tragedy.

In 1868, a group of farmers in Parkland, Florida decided to establish a school for their children. The first public school in Parkland was built on the current site of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 1927. The town of Parkland quickly became known for itsaters and golf courses, and it also became home to many businesses and residents. In 1959, the town repealed its incorporation and changed its name to Coral Springs. In 1975, a group of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killed 17 people with gunfire from a classroom window. This event began the Parkland Massacre which has been blamed for catalysting gun control laws in the United States. Following this tragedy, many schools across America made moves to install metal detectors within their campuses in an effort to prevent similar tragedies from happening again. The Broward County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement activities within the city of Coral Springs and surrounding areas. The office has jurisdiction over all non-municipal streets within the city limits as well as all county roads that enter into or exit Coral Springs boundaries. It also has jurisdiction over any private property located east or west of State Road 704 which enters into or exits Coral Springs boundaries
The Parkland, Florida school shooting on February 14, 2018 left 17 people dead and several others injured. The gunman, Nikolas Cruz, 19, opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland County before being shot and killed by police.
