The first cup of Joe brewed at that location is still used today as the origin story for Parkland Coffee. Today, over 30 years later, Parkland Coffee continues to provide quality coffee and delicious treats to residents of Broward County and surrounding areas. Parkland, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 17,871 as of the 2010 census. Parkland is located on the grounds of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 students and staff were killed by a gunman in February 2018. The school has been the focus of various protests and gun control rallies since February 2018. On March 14th, 2019, Parkland students organized a protest to demand universal background checks for all firearms sales and more money for schools to prevent shootings like that at Marjory Stoneman Douglas from happening again.

In March of Parkland, Florida, 20 students and educators were killed when a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The shooting has inspired many people to come together in support of school safety measures and gun control. Since the shooting, there have been several marches and rallies in support of gun reform around the United States. Parkland is also home to one of thehighest crime rates in the state of Florida. Despite this, residents have shown their support for gun reform by coming out to march and rally in solidarity with their peers from other communities across America.
In February, 1795, the area now known as Parkland was purchased from the Seminole people by Captain James Cook and his group. In 1821, military leader Simon Bolivar bought land in what is now Parkland from Captain Cook's heirs. The first settlers in what is now Parkland were landowners who donated their land to the state of Florida in 1836. The first school in what is now Parkland was built on lands donated by Judge John Marshall in 1838. The first doctor in what is now Parkland was Dr. James Aiken in 1850. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell ordered General JEB Stuart to attack Fort Sumter and fail if possible because he believed that South Carolina would then join the Union. Stuart's attack resulted in a significant loss of life for both sides and led to South Carolina rejoining the Confederacy immediately after this event. On November 14, 1907, during an election campaign for president, William McKinley made a speech at Ford’s Theater which included comments about how “the old guard has been replaced” including “a new set of young bloods coming up through the ranks – men like Walter Reuther and Philander Knox – men I can trust implicitly” referring to forerunner of United Auto Workers (UAW) Richard Trumka who had recently joined labor union movement
