In Parkland, Florida, the Marines have been Deployed in Support of the National Guard for many years now. The deployment has always been an important event for the locals as it brings together different communities and creates a stronger sense of community. The deployment was led by then-Marine Lt. Colonel David Helman and consisted of 100 Marines from Camp Pendleton and 8 other Marine detachments from Southern California. This history is something that residents treasure every time they see a marine unit deployed in support of our military here at home – they know that this gift will continue on through future deployments as well!

Many of these people who were removed never returned home and are still considered Native Americans by many Floridians today. After The Seminole Wars ended, many white settlers arrived in what is now Parkland County. These settlers were looking for a place to settle down and grow crops. They didn’t know about or understand the history of the Seminoles who had lived here for centuries. In 1857, when Parkland County was created, only 3 percent of its population was black; however, by 1860 that number had increased to 20 percent! African American residents first started moving into what is now Parkland County during this time period because they wanted a better life than they had back in slavery. Many businesses and organizations have been founded in Parkland County since it was formed including: The Methodist Church (1887), Presbyterian Church (1892), Baptist Church (1901), Jewish Community Center (1994), and First Baptist Church (2004). Most notable leaders who have helped shape these institutions include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., James Baldwin, Willie Dixon, Al Sharpton, and Marian Wright Edelman! Today there are over 350 businesses within walking distance of every resident in Parkland County! There are also several universities located within easy driving distance including University of Miami-Dade Campus Extension which offers a variety of courses; University Of Central Florida with its world-renowned Campbell School Of Law; Broward Health System with its medical center; and nearby Hillsborough State College with its agriculture school which has led to some great agricultural products being produced here such as oranges and tomatoes!
In the early 1800s, Parkland was a small community in southern Broward County. The area was first settled by pioneers from North Carolina in the late 18th century. In 1837, a group of Baptist missionaries arrived in Broward County and began preaching to the local people. In 1861, Broward County became a part of Florida and Parkland became its capital. The population of Parkland increased rapidly during the Civil War because of the influx of soldiers and their families. By 1865, Parkland had more than 5,000 residents. During Reconstruction, Parkland became an important center for African American achievement because it was home to many black professionals and entrepreneurs. After World War II, Broward County experienced rapid growth due to its role as a key manufacturing center in Florida. Many new businesses were founded in Parkland during this time, such as Foxwoods Resort Casino and Sunrise Hospitality Properties Incorporated (now Marriott International). However, due to economic stagnation during the 1990s and 2000s, some aspects of Parkland's cultural heritage have been lost or threatened.
