Parkland, Florida is a small town located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 9,554 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood metropolitan area and serves as the county seat for Broward County. Parkland was founded on November 15, 1900 by J.C. Nichols and his brother W.E. Nichols with a land grant from General James Knoppers to Johnnie Cochran and others who donated their homes and land in memory of their father, Admiral Thomas Cochran (1868-1936). The original site was two miles east of current day Parkland on State Road 474 north of US 1A/Broward Boulevard. In 1925, the townite board voted to rename itself after General James Knoppers because he had given so much support to Broward County during its formative years – including donating $5,000 towards the construction of Sunrise Hospital Medical Center! In 1957, when South Fort Lauderdale became an incorporated city, Parkland chose not to become part of South Fort Lauderdale but rather continue to serve as its county seat. On October 1st 1984 residents approved a resolution that proposed annexing neighboring unincorporated areas (including West Palm Beach) into Parkland in order to create more housing options for residents in need; this proposal ultimately failed due to lack of voter approval!! On February 14th 1990 gunmen opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killing 17 students and staff members before being killed by police officers responding inside the school! This event has been referred to as one of America’s deadliest massacres! Aftermath tours were held throughout Broward County in honor of those lost that day until 1999 when Gomer Pyle High School hosted its first memorial service!!! In 2013 Parkland voters passed a resolution asking the United States Congress for legislation recognizing December 14th –the anniversary of the massacre–as “National Gun Violence Prevention Day”! Despite this request lawmakers did not pass any such legislation!!! In 2020 ParkLAND voters passed another resolution requesting that President Donald Trump issue a proclamation designating January 20th through 24th each year as “National Gun Violence Prevention Month” !!!!Despite these requests too no presidential proclamation has ever been issued!!!! Today Parkland is home to many businesses and organizations who have made it their focusto help make change in our community!!!!! Some notable organizations include: The David Hogg Foundation which helps disadvantaged youth get scholarships & opportunities; American Legislative Exchange Council - an organization which seeks Republican Party policy changes through model bills; And numerous Service clubs such as Rotary International whose goal is To provide quality service without charge to individuals or groups

The revolt began with a small group of militiamen who took up arms and quickly grew into a widespread rebellion. By the end of 1775, more than 2,000 men had joined the insurgency and by September they had created their own government, called the Republic of West Florida. In December of that year, they successfully defended themselves from an attack by forces loyal to Great Britain. This achievement led to increased British interest in South Florida and in January 1776, British troops invaded the state and staged a successful invasion which resulted in the collapse of the Republic.
