Pembroke Pines, Florida is a small town in south-central Florida. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name comes from its location on Pine Island Sound and was given to it by General Andrew Jackson in 1821 as part of the Treaty of Paris after his victory over France in the War of 1812. The area that now makes up Pembroke Pines was first settled by Europeans in the late 17th century as part of what is now Jacksonville, Florida. By 1800, there were about 200 people living here. In 1821,General Andrew Jackson led an army against France and captured Mobile Bay from them, giving rise to the name "Pine Island Sound" for this spot on Pensacola Bay. Because so many people were coming here to fish and shipwreck during this time period, there was also a large amount of timber available for building. In 1840, when Troup County became organized into counties in south-central Florida, Pembroke Pines came under it and remained so until 1959 when it seceded to form Hillsborough County (now Pasco County). As a result of this secession process, most of what is now Pembroke Pines developed around Spring Lake rather than through rural annexation or township formation as had been common elsewhere in south-central Florida during this time period (see map below). However development continued largely within existing townships until 1960 when Hillsborough County split off from Pasco County and formed its own government with additional subdivisions specifically designated for development within its boundaries – including parts of today’s Pembroke Park and Clearwater Beach communities which had been unincorporated since before World War II – creating one major subdivision after another throughout what are now Tarpon Springs (Hillsborough), Sunrise Key (Pasco) and Windermere Islands eastward along US 1 all the way to Dunedin/Clearwater Beach on Gulf Breeze Peninsula just north of where Clearwater Beach would eventually be built later on (but long before any beachfront developments would take place there)). This process continues even today with subdivisions called “cities” established adjacent to shopping centers or other high-traffic areas while remaining unincorporated; these can usually be found near Interstate 20 or I-275 exits.) Today's pine trees lining Pine Island Sound date back more than 350 years! At their peak production in 1915–1916 they produced over 2 million pounds per acre! Historical data suggests that some early settlers may have grown rice crops near St Marks Plantation but no record exists documenting that activity."

The town of Pembroke Pines was founded on what is now US 41 near Lake Worth in 1825. It became a major trade center for citrus crops and lumber, and a summer resort for wealthy Americans. In 1915, when Palm Beach County was created, Pembroke Pines became part of it.
