The first white person to live in what is now Pembroke Pines was J.F. "Frank" Worth who immigrated from Illinois in 1878 and settled on a plantation near present-day Churubusco Creek. Worth built two homes there before moving to another plantation about three miles away in 1881 and dying there two years later at the age of 82 years old. His wife, Sarah Jane Worth, also lived in Pembroke Pines until her death in 1922 at the age of 83 years old. Their son John Frederick Worth moved to Pembroke Pines after Sarah Jane's death and took over the ownership of the estate in 1928 when his father died intestate. Frank Worth's slave girl named Mamie became Mrs. John Fort Worth after she married Frankworth's son in 1912.
