The Pensacola Army National Guard has been part of the United States Armed Forces since 1775. The first military unit in Pensacola was the 1st Regiment, Florida Infantry, Colonel George Rogers' Battalion of Light Dragoons on December 10, 1775. The regiment was disbanded on October 14, 1815. A new regiment was organized and named the 3rd Regiment, Florida Infantry on November 6, 1818. However it also disbanded six months later. In 1821 a new regiment was organized and named the 2nd Regiment, Florida Infantry; however it also disbanded two years later. On July 13, 1829 a new regiment was organized and named the 4th Regiment of Foot militia; however it also disbanded after only three months. A new regiment wasorganized and named the 1st battalion of infantry (Cavalry) on January 26, 1830; however this battalion also dissolved within a few weeks. In 1840 an appointment for an artillery officer with command of two heavy guns were made to Captain John Mason Neagle Vickers in order to arm a battery for garrison duty at Pensacola Bayou which never materialized[1]. In 1847 Major General James Hickey ordered Captains Charles Fenton Welch and Alfred Witherspoon to form companies B and C2 out of one company from each battalion to provide security for Fort Jefferson against possible Indian attack[2]. On February 28 Captains Welch and Witherspoon landed their units at Stonington Island but soon realized they were undermanned so they decided not to proceed further ashore until reinforcements could be landed[3]. When word reached them that Federal troops had landed they disembarked their ships without waiting for orders and began marching towards Fort Jefferson while artillery fire opened up behind them killing several Indians who had infiltrated into Ft Jefferson[4],[5]. This event is generally considered as one of the most significant engagements in Pensacola's history as it helped solidify Federal control over Mobile Bay Area.[6] Aftermath: A detachment from Majors Fenton Welch's Company C2 went ashore at Stonington Island with orders to reinforce Captains Welch & Witherspoon's unit which eventually arrived off Fort Jefferson safely[7]; all casualties among both units were minor

The Pensacola Army National Guard has been in existence since 1907. In 1917, the Florida State Legislature passed a bill authorizing the organization of an army within the state. The first unit to be raised was the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, Pensacola Infantry (later redesignated as 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry Division). On January 10, 1918, during World War I, the battalion was mobilized and served with distinction at Belleau Wood. The battalion returned home in 1919 and became part of 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. On October 15 of that year it transferred to 4th Brigade/1st Cavalry Division under command of Major General James T. Morrison Jr. on maneuvers in Mobile Bayou near New Orleans before deploying to Europe on November 8th as part of Allied Expeditionary Force (AEF) which landed at Normandy on D-Day. Later that year 1st Brigade/5th Infantry Division fought in battles such as Battle of Amiens and Operation Market Garden until being withdrawn from combat on May 9th 1945 and demobilized at Camp Butler outside Nashville Tennessee just prior to V-E Day when it reorganized as Headquarters & Headquarters Company/6th Infantry Regiment under command of Captain John Ahernan while still stationed overseas with AEF. It deployed back home for occupation duty beginning September 15TH 1946 when 7097 Troop Carrier Squadron transport aircraft departed NAS Miami for Japan en route to Yokohama where they arrived on October 20TH 1946 after completing twenty four hours flight time nonstop! On December 12TH 1946 HQ&HC company deployd further south along Iwo Jima Roads becoming 3rd Battalion/6th Infantry Regiment activated at Ewa Airfield Okinawa following Japanese surrendering! After more than two years deployment this regiment arrived here February 6TH 1948 having traveled over 900 miles! This regiment remained active until July 29 th 1990 when it merged with 3883 Parachute Rifles who had also become activated here earlier that month!
Pensacola, Florida is a small city in the U.S. state of Florida that was founded on November 5, 1823 by Spanish traders as Santa Clara de Pensacola. The name may come from the Nahuatl word pensación meaning "fortress". By 1830, Pensacola had become the most important port on the Mobile River and its surrounding area because of its trade with Mexico City. In 1836, during the Mexican–American War, Pensacola was captured by General Antonio López de Cámpora's army and lost much of its development until it regained its importance as a military and commercial center in 1849 when Spain sold it to the United States for $5 million. During World War II, Pensacola was an important naval base along US East Coast before becoming one of the leading American cities after both Pearl Harbor (1941) and Alameda ( 1945). After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, Pensacola became home to many residents who had evacuated their homes before or during Hurricane Katrina. The history of Pensacola goes back more than two centuries. On November 5th1823 Spanish traders set up shop here as Santa Clara de Pensacola under the leadership of José María del Castillo y Rojas Pinzon y Salinas While trading along lower Mobile River they came upon what is now known as Old Santa Clara Mission which still stands today just across Mobile Bay from downtown Pensacolas original site making it difficult for visitors to believe that this mission built over 400 years ago ever saw human occupancy again! One can only imagine how exciting it must have been for these early settlers to explore this wild new land which would soon be part of their growing town! In 1840s when Alabama became part of US there were few options open to those living east of Stroudsburg KY other then moving west into Indian Territory where malaria & dysentery rates were rampant & life expectancy was shortening rapidly due to lack Of food & water availability etc!! So when US decided not too let Texas secede FROM us we did something no one else wanted To do- WE GAVE TEXAS TO THE PENSACOLA ESTATES MURDERERS!!! That’s right folks- We gave them everything they wanted- our land, our resources, our people- but guess what? We kept our town! LOL Today if you drive down I-10 through downtown you will see all those old buildings from prewar days including The Rialto Theatre which once hosted Presidential debates between Andrew Johnson and Richard Nixon! In 1849 pensacsolans voted overwhelmingly in favor of selling their town lot to US for $5 million dollars which made it one among many strategic decisions made by Our government at that time given the very high stakes involved! Given that fact USS Constitution had recently been lost at sea off Cuba & war with Mexico seemed imminent , having access to so much valuable real estate within suchClose confines felt like a Godsend!! SO WITHIN A YEAR OF OUR VOTING IN FAVOR OF SALE US CONSTRUCTED AN ARCADE OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN CAPTIVE PENSACOLA !! This newly built arcade allowed citizens (& visitors) direct access 2 broadway via escalators/ lifts / pedestrian bridges – giving us perhaps our most popular attraction today – FREE PARKING IN CENTRAL PARK ! WOWWWWWWWWWW !! What a difference 1 year makes !! It wasn’t long before businesses started popping up all around downtownCAPTIVE PENSACOLA !! From restaurantcs to souvenir shops everyone seemed intent on exploiting every inchOf THIS HUGE IMPORTANT CITY THAT HAD JUST RECOVERED FROM Losing ALL OF ITS FAMILY FOUNDATION CREDITS IN THE CLEANEST WAY possible!!! Just like THAT CAPTIVITY WAS BACK!! But wait….the REAL RESUMMATION OF THIS TIME WILL BEGIN TO APPear WHEN YOU SEE ALL THE STUFF THAT HAS BEEN ADDED TO DOWNTOWN OVER THE LAST DECADES INCLUDING: A NEW POLICE STATION (FOUNDED BY LOCAL LAWMAN JEFFERSON AND HIS TEAM), A GAS STAMP KEY FACILITY(BASED ON ANNUAL REGULAR STORAGE HOURS FOR GAS KITchens UNDERGROUND), A BUSINESS DISTRICT(BASED ON BUSINESS HOURS ONLY), AN ENTERTAINMENT AREA WITH 6 ACTORS PERFORMANCE ROOM(BASED ON GUESTimate NUMBER OF PEOPLE VISITING DAILY AS PART OF THEIR WORK WEEKEND ADVENTURES!), AN AMAZON COMPUTER SHOP(BASED ON PREVIOUS ACCOUNT REVIEWS SAYING THEY ARE ONE OFTHE BEST INTERNET SHOPS IN SOUTH FLORIDA!), AND MUCH MORE……..all within touching distance Of ANYONE WHO WOULD WANT IT!!!!!!!!!…..And we didn’t stop there just because Capitol Hill got plastered With More Stuff; we went even further & added TWO NEW HIGH SCHOOLS (+ AFTERNOON PROGRAMMES FOR STUDENTS WHO NEED TO PEACE OUT BEFORE CLASSES START), A MEDICAL CENTER (+ ABOUT 12 doctors office hours per week each), AND NOW WE HAVE EVEN MORE STORIES TO REPORT ABOUT HOW MUCH GOOD THINGS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO DOWNTOWN OVER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pensacola, Florida is a city in the U.S. state of Florida and the county seat of Escambia County. As of the 2010 census, Pensacola had a population of 66,611. It is located on Pensacola Bay and shares borders with Mobile, Alabama to the north and Gulfport, Mississippi to the south. The bay was named by Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto for Padre Francisco de Paula, who had been shipwrecked there in 1539. The area that now Pensacola was first settled by Paleo-Indians about 12,000 years ago according to archaeological evidence from nearby Apalachicola Bay. The Pascagoula culture lived from c. 9000 BC through 4500 BC near present-day Panama City; their ceramics have been found at several sites in Escambia County including Atchafalaya Cave and Ship Key Point State Park near Pensacola Beach. In 1821, Captain James Fenton decided to build a military post on Tallahassee's shoreline after being impressed by what he saw as an unprotected harbor on Pensacola Bay equipped only with canoes and small fishing vessels. After months of construction work, Fenton's Post arrived in 1824 but quickly encountered problems due to lack of food supplies, hostile Indians and unreliable climate conditions which led him to abandon it two years later. He returned the next year with help from General Andrew Jackson who designated Tallahassee as his new capital during his presidency in 1828 under then-President James Kiefer Buchanan (1809–1865). In 1840s Fort Pickens became an important center for Indian trade along Mobile Bay before its destruction by American forces during World War II; it is now known as Fort Pickens National Monument/Doubtful Sound Historic Site within Escambia County boundaries During Reconstruction following the Civil War (1861–1865), Pensacola gradually regained some level of self-government although much remained uncertain due to white attitudes towards African Americans which continued into the 20th century until passage of civil rights legislation such as "Laws re Peninsular Territory" (1948) which defined all areas east of Interstate 10 within Escambia County as part of newly created black Seminole Tribe lands
