The Air Force has a long and proud history in Pinecrest, Florida. From early days when the military operated out of a single hangar on Fort Myers Beach, to the present day, the Air Force has played an integral role in our community. The first American air force Base was established at Pinecrest in 1941. In 1946, Pinecrest became home to The First Continental Military Academy. This school trained officers who would become part of The United States Air Force. Since then, Pinecrest has seen many changes as the USAF moved its Headquarters from Colorado Springs to Orlando in 1947-48 and later to Tampa Bay. Today, the AFB resides within one of two city limits in Seminole County - an inclusive community that is also home to three major aerospace companies: Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Co. The City of Pinecrest is anchor tenant for both agencies with their combined workforce totaling more than 4,000 people including 1,200 sworn Officers and Civilian employees assigned directly or indirectly to support Airmen operations both here at Home Station and abroad through our numerous contractor partners throughout Central America/the Caribbean Basin/South America and Europe etc... . In 1954-55 Palm Beach County voters passed a resolution supporting annexation by the City of Pinecrest which would have brought much needed tax revenue into town coffers while increasing social services available to citizens within walking distance of what was then known as "Fort Myers Beach". After years of negotiation by both local officials and representatives from BogotaAirport (now Miami International Airport), Fort Myers Beach finally annexing itself onto Pinecrest's territory on November 3rd 1955 becoming Coral Gables Borough! On December 9th 1957 Coconut Grove Borough voted in favor of annexing as well making pine Crest Borough 2ndlargest city in Broward County next door after Miami! It wasn't until 1959 when Orange Park Borough successfully annexed themselves creating Winter Garden Township before finally achieving annexation status on January 3rd 1961 bringing us upto date with today's municipality numbering system! It was during this time that Fort Myers Beach rose above its humble beginnings as a small fishing village located just off US 41 between Ft Myers beachfront and Rehoboth Island into something much greater - home to over 100 years now !! With all these new arrivals came new opportunities for growth - businesses opened up along US 41 such as Wawa convenience stores ( precursor thereto being Donato’s Pizza ), Oldsmobile dealership ( precursor thereto being Checker’s Auto Parts ), ice cream parlors ( precursor thereto being Dairy Queen ), movie theaters ( Blockbuster Video ) and even aircraft manufacturers like McDonnell Douglas Corp who built their plant on Enterprise Boulevard just outside town limits !! Numerous events took place during this time period starting with World War II when several P-51 Mustang fighter planes were manufactured here; moving forward through peacetime with various ceremonial occasions such as President Kennedy arriving here during his visit to Ft Myers Beach on October 20th 1963; becoming operational again following Hurricane Andrew which devastated southeastern Florida on September 14th 1992; Operation Desert Storm beginning August 16th 1990 followed by Hurricane Katrina hitting Gulf Coast USA less than one week later claiming lives & devastation herein

Pinecrest is a small town in Florida that was founded in the early 1920s. The community has been located on the eastern coast of Pinecrest Bay, about 15 miles south of downtown Tampa. According to the 2010 census, Pinecrest had a population of 439 people. The town began as a salt mines and post office were established in 1922. A logging company built a sawmill and lumberyard in 1925, which became an important part of the local economy. In 1929, the first school opened in Pinecrest with grades 1-8. By 1935, there were 10 schools in Pinecrest and it had a population of 527 people. Aralia Mining Company bought the sawmill and lumberyard from the logging company in 1936 and operated them until 1967. In 1966, Alcoa announced plans to abandon its plants on Tampa's east coast because of competition from new steel mills being built near Miami Beach and St Petersburg. The abandoned plants caused economic problems for pinecrest until 1997 when they were sold to Gulf Stream Energy Partners LP for $5 million$. In 2007, Gulf Stream Energy Partners LP agreed to sell its interest in the abandoned plants to PNC Financial Corporation for $1 billion$. After more than two years of negotiations,pinecrest residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of selling their land back to Alcoa for development into an aluminum smelter and aluminum refinery. Because annexation by Hillsborough County would have required approval from both Hillsborough County commissioners as well as state legislators, no such action occurred before 2009 when Hurricane Gustav made landfall along Interstate 495 just outside town limits; this effectively ended any hope that pinecrest would see development or growth over the next few years given that federal funds were now available only for metals projects within Hillsborough County instead of beyond town limits without any corresponding market demand or investment potential beyond what might be found at existing industrial sites within town limits (and even those sites are not without risk due to zoning changes that could allow much higher levels of heavy manufacturing).

Pinecrest is a city in Pinecrest County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area and is the county seat of Pinecrest County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pinecrest were Spanish missionaries in 1763. In 1810, pineapples were discovered on land that would become Pinecrest. The town was named after Captain James Cook's ship " Resolution" when he sighted it while exploring the Florida Keys in 1814. A post office called Pinecrest was established in 1827, and by 1830, it had a population of 400 people. On November 3, 1838, General James Ewing burned down parts of Ft Myers because he believed that Seminole Indians were using it as their winter home. As a result of this event, the Uptown Business District (later known as downtown) became one of the earliest areas ever developed in central Orlando proper. In 1865-66 Jacksonville developer John Harker built several large blocks north and east of where Orange Avenue currently stands on what would become State Road 506 just south of downtown Orlando – including what are now Citrus Heights neighborhood and most notably Live Oak Boulevard/State Road 528 today which bisects University Drive/Uptown Boulevard today just south from I-4 Exit 241B). These developments laid out much of what we know as downtown today with only a few small exceptions such as State Road 506 running through center city instead going straight to Interstate 4 exit 241B). For many years downtown was little more than an agricultural colony with commercial buildings scattered throughout these streetscape old neighborhoods still existin Citrus Heights & Live Oak blvd area lots still remain
