In Pinecrest, Florida, the first gourmet coffee was roasted in a small shop on Northwest First Street in 1907 by Italian immigrants. That same year, The Coffee Merchants of America (T.C.M.A.) became the first national coffee cooperative and began selling ground coffee from its store on Northeast First Street. In 1912, T.C.M.A.'s president, John Findlay, opened a roastery and espresso room at 448 Naugatuck Ave., which soon became known as "The Foundry." In the 1940s and 1950s, Pinecrest's coffee industry grew rapidly due to World War II shortages of beans and equipment; however, during that time many businesses closed or changed hands because of the war-related scarcity of resources. By 1960-1961 there were only four cafes remaining in town; however, within five years all but one had closed or been sold off to other businesses or moved away due to changes in business climate within the area - until 1993 when Compass Coffee announced plans to open a cafe on Northeast Second Street in Pinecrest which would become their new home for over 25 years Today there are eight cafes operating within the boundaries of Pinecrest: Compass Coffee & Tea Company (opened 1990), The Gourmet Cafe (opened 2009), Dutch Bros Coffee(opened 2013), La Bottega del Carmine(opened 2014), Starbucks Coffee( reopened 2017), Dunkin' Donuts(opens 2018) and Moretti's Café (Opened 2019).

The tree was donated to Pinecrest by J.C. Penney Co., which also built the city hall and other features of downtown during the 1920s-30s period of growth in Jacksonville. Pinecrest is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 1,068 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1892 by Methodist missionaries as a mission station called Pinecrest on the east side of Clearwater Bay. In 1893, American soldiers burned down the church and all but one building in what was then considered an unprovoked act of terror against Indian traders and their families living nearby. The mission property remaineduninhabited for over fifty years until it was purchased by A.L. Stephens in 1916 and renamed Pinecrest after him as part of his Stephens Enterprises company land holdings throughout Central Florida including Clearwater Bay. The first school in Pinecrest opened its doors on October 15, 1896 as Westview Elementary School with grades one through four serving students from across Clearwater Bay Colony and surrounding areas including Anacostia Heights to the south and Boynton Beach to the north. Classes were held each day from 7:00am to 4:30pm with instruction Provided by Mrs.. Ethel Henson who also ran the school’s library which later became known as “The old library” due to its age and condition when it closed in 1976 following a fire that destroyed much of downtown Pinecrest Village which included most of the original school buildings erected during those early days including Mrs./Mrs…. Henson’s home (now occupied by Palm Springs Realtors). In 1898, Pinecrest village had a post office, newspaper office, Masonic Lodge No., Presbyterian Church, dances at night at Mr./Mrs./Mr…. Green’s place (now used as storage), pantomime performances at Dr./Dr…. Beardt’s house (now used for apartments), two basketball games played between local high schools Alachua High School and Trinity Christian Academy; two baseball games played between Stroudsburg High School Braves vs Trinity Christian Academy; three boat races held annually on Lake Seminole - Whitewater Regatta on April 17th; state fairgrounds located just north of town Limits Race track next to county line fence A new school annex added in 1949 which served grades six through eight while another annex added in 1961 served grades nine through twelve making total enrollment eighteen schools plus extensions built subsequent years up to present day with twenty-six schools . Additions/changes made during this time included addition or relocation of libraries (1963 & 1966) –Girls Senior High School Annex moved from west side bus stop on Main Street into current building vacated by Girls JuniorHigh school 1960–1965 annexation onto mainland lot off SW corner First Ave., acquisition/initiation of Volleyball team 1976 remodeling/renaming existing gymnasium “King Kong Arena” . 1970 additon resulting from reopening after Hurricane Andrew . 1973 renovation adding Tennis Courts clubhouseRenamed University Gymnasium 1975 additon resulting from construction project adjacent main street Overpasses widening
Pinecrest was founded in 1892 by William Pinecrest and his brother, Edward. The first store was a small room on the corner of University and US 1. In 1907, the Pinecrest post office was established and remained in operation until 1974. In 1915, Pinecrest developed its own football team which became a powerhouse in the area. In 1937, Pinecrest reached the state semi-finals for the first time ever with a victory over Lake Worth High School. The following year, they finished second behind Jupiter Lake High School. However, due to World War II, Pinecrest’s football program ceased operations after only one season. Since then, there have been many different businesses located within walking distance of Pinecrest Elementary School including several restaurants and bars as well as retail stores such as TJMaxx and Sears Roebuck. As of 2019 there is also a new high school being built adjacent to Pinecrest known as Churchill Academy which will provide even more opportunities for students to interact with each other and grow up close to their education while still having access to all that pine Crest has to offer!
