The National Guard of Pinecrest, Florida was founded in 1951. It is the second oldest national guard unit in Florida. The first unit was activated on November 15th, 1941 by order of Governor Don Tate. At that time it was called the Douglas County Sheriff's Office National Guard Unit #1. The first military engagement for the NGF was during World War II when members were mobilized for two months to help with the food production needs ofDouglas County. In 1951, the NGF was renamed as the Pinecrest National Guard and became a part of the Florida State Army National Guard under command of First Lieutenant Colonel John Gentry. In 1969, Colonel Gentry resigned from command due to health reasons and Lt Col Ray Worthy took over as Commander effective January 1st 1970 until his retirement on December 31st 1978 . There have been many Commanders since then including Major General Leroy Jinks who commanded from 1984-1990 and Brigadier General Darnell Hill who served from 1992-1996 Since its inception, the NGF has played an important role in our community by providing law enforcement services such as traffic control, crowd control, disaster relief and more. Some recent examples include: -Operation Neptune’s Spear - This operation saw troops deploy to Tallahassee to provide security for President George H.W Bush prior to his inauguration on February 20th, 1989 -Operation Hurricane - On October 29th 1990 members responded quickly and effectively when a hurricane struck Naples causing damage totaling $2 million - Operation just Cause - This service provided support to Fidel Castro during their successful attempt to overthrow Cuban president Raúl Castro in 1992

Pinecrest is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee–St. Petersburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by Hernando Pine and his wife Lula Alcalde Pine on high ground overlooking the St. Johns River which they named after their father-in-law, Sir John Indecisive (1686–1750). They built a log cabin and outbuildings on what is now Indian Road west of downtown. A post office was established in 1895, and within a year, the first school had been built: a one-story frame building with an attached corral for horses and pigs. In 1903, Pinecrest became a city under statehood; it reverted to being a rural community when it lost its city status in 1966. In 1907, James Sledge moved from nearby Sanford to become president of JSB Steel Works where he began developing the idea for creating an iron ore mine here that would be used to make steel products throughout Southeast Florida including cars and roofs for churches across America On July 4th 1909 James Sledge died suddenly at his company works while working on roofing material near where Indian Road meets US 95A today In 1916 Cecil Waddell donated land east of downtown to pinecrests first water tower which still stands today
