Since the late 1800s, the United States Navy has deployed significant numbers of vessels to various parts of the world. One such deployment was in Pinecrest, Florida, during World War II. The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was mobilized for service in the Southwest Pacific Theater and arrived in December 1941. During its time with the navy, the Enterprise received a number of gifts from local citizens and businesses. One such gift was a large quantity of candy from Mrs. Ayer’s Candy store on Standish Avenue in Pinecrest. On December 15, 1941, after days of naval bombardment that killed more than 100 sailors and destroyed or damaged over 1,000 buildings in Tokyo Bay, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor with a surprise Kaiju attack that damaged or destroyed five warships and three submarines including the USS Enterprise (CV-6). The Enterprise had been positioned off Japan’s coast when this event occurred. The Enterprise returned to Yokosuka Naval Base on January 10th 1945 after being decommissioned at sea for almost two years following her return to US shores. Upon her arrival back at Yokosuka Naval Base she underwent overhaul which included replacement of all her torpedo tubes with torpedoes capable of firing nuclear warheads as well as new engines and turbines. She entered commission on February 9th 1945 and served until September 1946 when she sailed for Hawaii where she arrived on October 5th 1946 just prior to ending her military career at Hickam Air Force Base on November 2nd 1946. She remains there today as part of Hawaii National Museum's collection

Pinecrest is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. Pinecrest is located on U.S. Highway 27 about 15 miles east of Sanford and 30 miles west of Lakeland. The James Mckenzie House, built in 1892 by James McKenzie and his wife Fannie, still stands today as a museum honoring the history of Pinecrest and its people. There are several popular businesses that have been around for many years such as Bayou Bazaar BBQ & Grill, Walmart Supercenter (formerly Home Depot), Cabela's Sporting Goods, Jiffy Lube, Subway sandwich shop etcetera. In recent years there has also been an increase in development with new stores such as Zaxby's GameStop and Staples store opening up within walking distance of each other as well as a few restaurants such as Chili’s Pizza Garden and Sonic Drive-In being built close to shopping centers like Sears Tower orь PayPal Center/.

The CVN-65 embarked on her maiden deployment in 2009 and served as part of Operation Neptune Spear, which involved the force-protection mission off the coast of Somalia. In October 2013, during Operation Aurora, Enterprise joined forces with USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-66) to conduct a combined air and surface exercise.
Pinecrest, Florida is a small community located on the banks of the St. Johns River in Bay County, Florida. The community was founded by Captain Benjamin Pine in 1876 as a landing for timber rafts ferrying logs from the sawmill at Clearwater to Tampa. In 1917, Pinecrest incorporated as a municipality and has grown steadily since then. The town's founder, Captain Benjamin Pine, had difficulty finding land for his new settlement due to its location on high ground between two large rivers. To make up for this deficiency, he offered free land to any white settler who could build a cabin and turn it into a farm or store. This offer led to the growth of Pinecrest because many people were willing to take advantage of Captain Ben's generosity. By 1904, pinecrest had an impressive population of around 200 residents and six businesses: a grocery store, flour mill, post office, schoolhouse/library, Baptist church and doctor's office. By 1925-26 only one business remained: the lumberyard which closed in 1967 after over 50 years in operation.
