Pinecrest is located on U.S. Route 27 between Kissimmee and Sanford. The community began as a post office called Pinecrest Station in 1885, and became a town in 1907 when it incorporated as a municipality. In 1959, the community merged with neighboring Sanford to form one city and its current name, Pinecrest while Sanford retains its municipal status until it becomes an unincorporated community again at the 2020 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which are land and are water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,814 people, 553 households, and 466 families residing in the town. The population density was 768 people per square mile (291/km²). There were 639 housing units at an average density of 307 per square mile (118/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3%of all residents

Pinecrest is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,788 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Pinecrest was founded in 1892 by John Fenton and his family as a day care center for working children. In 1911, Pinecrest became a post office and has been under the same name ever since. The town started out as a tiny hamlet on the eastern edge of Monroe County, about six miles south of Jacksonville on U.S. Highway 1A (now called State Road 9). In 1892, John Fenton bought some land east of Jacksonville and built a small home there to provide day care for his five children and their mother. The first post office in Pinecrest was opened in 1911; it served as the only village until 1925 when it joined with neighboring New Smyrna Beach to form what is now known as Jacksonville Township. The growth of pinecrest over time has been significant: from just over one hundred people at its peak in 1950 to more than three thousand today, thanks largely to an influx of workers during World War II who brought new life into the area followingplantations that were abandoned after the war ended. Many residents have ancestry from both Florida and Cherokee nations which reside nearby; many businesses within town are based on these connections too- including several restaurants that cater specifically to Native American customers or those visiting Indian reservations outside of Jacksonville proper
