The Air Force has a long and proud history in Pinellas Park, Fla. The United States Air Force arrived here in 1949 after World War II to provide air support for the war effort. After the war, the USAF began instruction at Pinellas Park Airport, which became an important training ground for pilots and bomber crews. Today, the USAF operates four squadrons of bombers and six squadrons of fighter planes stationed at Pinellas Park Airport. The squadron headquarters is located near Terminal 3 on the west side of terminal building A. Squadron headquarters provides command and control for all USAF aircraft operations at PEP. The mission of the USAF is to protect democracy, freedom, security and economy by providing aerospace force that can extend deterrence or conduct offensive airstrikes against any threat environment worldwide. In addition to its military purposes, Pinellas Park Airport also serves as a commercial hub for the area with several airlines serving here including Tampa-based Delta Airlines and Orlando-based Florida Airways.

The town was founded by Dutch farmers in 1853 and named after General James Pinellas who fought in the American Revolution. The first post office opened in 1854. In 1865, Pinellas Park became a village and was incorporated as a city on November 12th of that year. The city had a population of 508 at the 2000 census but it declined to 471 at the 2010 census due to demography changes within Pasco County as well as annexation by Hillsborough Township which has a much larger population than Pinellas Park. On January 1st 2019, Pinellas Park was merged into Hillsborough Township effective from January 1st 2020 onward

They founded a sawmill around 1851 and a store around 1852. In 1865 they built a post office on what is now USF's campus. By 1870 there were over 50 business owners in Pinellas Park with over $10,000 in assets! In 1886 the first streetcar line was put into service in Tampa and it became known as "The Boulevard Line" because it traveled through most of downtown Tampa including Pinellas Park! This transportation innovation helped spur development along this corridor which eventually included much of Downtown Tampa today! In 1907 the City Council voted to annex some land east of current- day USF for use as a parkland area which would become known as Pinellas Park! pineLLAS PARK was officially established on September 14th 1907 by Mayor John A. Today, we enjoy all that Pinellas Park has to offer – beautiful parkslands full of trees, playgrounds for children and families, tennis courts, basketball courts and more! Pinellas Park was one of the first towns in Florida. It was founded in 1835 by Captain James Pinellas and his brother, Colonel David Pinellas. The town grew rapidly because of its natural resources, and by 1840, it had a population of over 100 people. In 1846, the town voted to become a state capital, and it became so in 1851. In 1865, Pinellas Park was renamed Tampa after General John A. Polk who served as Governor of Florida from 1861-1865. The city reached its peak during the late 19th century when it had an estimated population of over 1,000 people. However, During World War II the city passed through difficult times with many homes destroyed or damaged by fire or bombing raids from the Japanese military
