The military has a long and proud history in Pinellas Park, Fla. The city was founded as Fort Walton Beach on December 5, 1835 by Colonel James S. Ketchum and his men of the 2nd Seminole War Regiment. The United States Military Academy (USMA) was founded at Ft. Brooke in Sarasota County on November 9, 1845 by General John C. Frémont and Commandant of Cadets George Armstrong Custer. As part of World War II, the city became home to both the Army Air Forces Training Station (AAFTS) and Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (HAF). In 1947, Ft. Brooke was closed and its cadets were reassigned to other installations. However, Pinellas Park's military heritage continues through various museums located throughout the city- including USMA's barracks- now used as an event space for weddings and other social events. Today, there are more than 6,000 active duty soldiers stationed in Pinellas Park- many of whom are honorably discharged or have retired from service after over 20 years of honorable service! The City government is also home to two large military academies: USMA - which oversees all aspects of student life - and Hillsborough Community College's School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), which provides civilian students with training in ground warfare skills such as artillerynery, infantry tactics, armorcrafting, airpower operations etc... The army presence in Pinellas Park dates back to 1861 when Confederate forces besieged Ft. Brooke during the Second Seminole War while Union forces stood nearby monitoring events from a distance; this siege led to one death within Confederate ranks for each day that passed without relief! In 1865 during Reconstruction following the end of the Civil War local black troops served alongside white units under command at Camp Lawton until it wasdiscontinued again in 1868 due to lack of enlisted black volunteers! Since then memberships in both armies have been intermittent due largely to budget cuts but sporadic visits haven't stopped altogether... Recently however Army Sgt./ Maj.'s Unit 'All American' visited town for six days conducting educational programming about military life & culture here before returning home on May 25th!!! In 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte was able to conquer Europe and establish himself as leader of the French Empire. This led to a decline in military spending by Great Britain and France. In 1813, Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo and lost control of most of Europe. This led to a period of peace called the Napoleonic Wars which ended in 1815 with the Treaty of Paris. During this time, there were several attempts by members of both countries to form an all- honorary standing army called an “army corps” or “corps de la paix” (peace corps). None succeeded until 1881 when Lord Kitchener established what is now known as the Royal Irish Regiment as an all- honorary unit within the British Army. At this time, it became clear that there was a need for an all- honorary unit within the Army because there wasn’t enough enlisted men who could be honorably discharged due to illness or injury. Since then, various other organizations have been established within The Army which have served as an important part of its history: The Royal Air Force (1911), Riverboat Squadron (1920), Battle Group (1939), Special Forces Brigade (1982), Commando force(1989) and Parachute Regiment (1998).

Pinellas Park is a census-designated place and town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,479 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Pinellas Park were two families who arrived on a slave ship from Africa in 1835. They named their new land after John A. Buchanan, 4th Viscount Buchanan of Lochalsh in Scotland. In 1845, Captain James Wofford (1804-1866) became the first white settler in what would become Pinellas Park when he purchased 400 acres (1 km²) of land from the Indian tribe that resided there before that time. He built a cabin near present day Clearwater Harbor to house his family and animals before purchase number 2 came through on February 12, 1846 by Jeptha Gentry (1812-1885). This was also Captain Wofford's first commercial venture outside of Scottish Highlands country where he had grown up prior to coming to America. In 1849 Captian Wofford married Miss Anna Lassiter and they moved into their cabin until 1850 when they erected the first frame house here today which still stands as one of our most iconic symbols within our community – known locally as “The Cottage” or simply "The House." This was followed by many others until all but one structure were destroyed by fire on October 15th 1951 – an event which forever changed this small community with such impact it has been honored as both a National Historic Landmark and Recorded Texas Historical Landmark! In its heyday homes across several blocks located just east of US 98 served not only local residents but also commuters travelling to various parts of Tampa Bay each day; something few if any areas can boast today! Today little remains more than foundations other than telltale nails remaining from construction back then! The original pine trees that lined every street have long since gone away leaving only barren lots behind where once beautiful gardens graced these same streetscape! It wasn't until after World War II that things began to change for Pinellas Park with increasing numbers moving into newer subdivisions further away from downtown while some businesses continued to operate unchanged for decades thereafter including post office, grocery store & bank etc…. This pattern would continue until well into the present day with just a handful remaining operational institutions scattered throughout nearly every block along US 98A – leaving much of what used to make this community so special NOW vacant!! As mentioned earlier golf courses/clubhouses became popular locations for retirement communities during this time while other types of businesses continued operating albeit at reduced levels due largely to lackadaisical owners who often did not take care of their properties anymore let alone maintain them properly!!! Although much has changed over the years such as population growth resulting in increased development pressures along US 98A particularly for those living within city limits generally; some constants have remained relatively static - namely Pines Parks unique geographical location & character making it an ideal spot for both holidaymakers & locals alike….. indeed “the perfect place” according to one resident himself…………………..continued below…
